I've had no trouble setting up network shares between Linux and W7, or Linux and W10. I spent a whole afternoon doing this with W11, and then your video explained that you could only get it to work using the IP address. Did this, and it connected straight away - many thanks. I've now set my routed to issue a fixed IP to the Linux box, and created a shortcut on the W11 machine to it.

Bro I am I in win 11 ....when I type ip address in run ...it says check name or problem with network... doesn't open .... can't fix it 😥....it also says..my Ubuntu ip address is not responding....I should I make it responds

Performed exact same steps but when I access it from windows 11, I do get issue " Windows cannot access \\192.x.x.x. you don not have permission to access \\192.x.x.x. Contact your Network Administrator to access request"

When I right click on a folder I don't have the Local Network Share option in the Context Menu, any idea why?

thanks, is it possible to connect ubuntu machine to windows machine but using the ethernet cable, i think this way the transfer will be faster

im not getting that user name /password credentials pop up, it just that normal popup about contacting the administrator. I´m sorry to say I think we are missing a few steps here. Im not running ubuntu on a virtual machine either.

Edit, I renamed the sharename but oddly the old and the new sharename now sits there side by side after opening /ip-address/ so now i get the pop up but it dont seem to accept the credentials. :/

"and a user name(joe)" where does this user name come from? is it the windows user, or ubuntu? when I try to add the windows user name (owner/OWNER), terminal returns "gpasswd: user 'OWNER' does not exist". adding the ubuntu user works, but at the end, in windows,
"Windows cannot access \\[IP address]\[filename]
You do not have permission to access \\[IP address]\[filename]. Contact your network administrator to request access."


as the network administrator, I am at a loss as how to resolve this. pls help!!

I did exactly s you showed.if I go to Windows and try that shared map on Linux. I get a pop-up with username and pass. But it does not accept it. Any idea what I did wrong?
