There has been a long demand for seperate state of Gorkhaland within the union of India . It is literally the oldest state reorganization demand in India dating back to pre independence time .

Sikkim didn't agitate to merge with India. Basically Indian government led by Nehru and Patel controlled their defense and slowly built their influence over Sikkim. Later under Indira Gandhi India promised special rights to the Sikkimese people and started a successful coup which led to Sikkim joining India with the majority support from the people against the monarch

Sikkim never wanted to be the part of India but they wanted to free from chogyal

but here is the loophole,
sikkim faced a demography change between british rule and indian independence, therefore most of its population now (50% +) consists of nepalese hindus, who came there as workers, and they were the demanders of democracy as they faced discrimination by locals of sikkim and were poor while local sikkimese were rich land owners, therefore sikkimese were happy with the monarch... while nepalese werent, and sikkim and nepal have a long history of wars even before british. So It means that demography change leads to power instability !!!

Greater nepal..sikim was the part of nepal..if you ask them they want to be part of nepal..not india..we know the history how sikim was force to became a partvof indian..sorry my English is not good😂
