Are Drop Zones Dead…? 💀

🤔 I see drop zones still going into new construction homes but I’m curious if these are still popular or are they on the way out?

What are your thoughts about Drop Zones?
Still a good idea?

All depends on how you train the inhabitants of your household

Any flat surface will become a drop zone. If not for a designated area, then the next available flat surface will suffice. To keep it a somewhat organized chaos, you're better off looking for a better way to hide the mess such as a partition wall or even a folding screen for that area. then a once a week forced clean up with the recommendation to not make the mess in the first place will at least make the clean up faster and easier! But I'm just a father of four who is retired now. But you can never retire from parenting FYI! lol

Mud room or similar space in the garage, sometimes built under the stairs/subfloor

I want a space in the garage like the one you walked by and didn't point out

A mud room is 100% worth having. If done right. Its a place to keep verry common worn items. Like weather appropriate shoes and coats as well as umbrellas. If you have an issue with clutter. It isnt built right for you. Or you need to reduce what you keep there.

Drop zones are a must. That said, when they will block the entrance/exit when used, they haven't been done correctly. I have young kids and they have a lot of stuff that goes along with school, outings, etc. If I was to put all their stuff in that drop zone, even just to get it out of the car, it would be spilling into the hallway and causing a tripping hazard.

Needs to be a little bit back more about 2-3 feet and possibly enclosed but perfect 👍

I would put the shelves back more away from the door because if you’re entering, your kids will just pile stuff on and it’s in the middle of a walkway if they’re like sitting on it so push it back more

Many houses have the garage go into the laundry room and that becomes the drop zone. This would be great as long as the laundry room is an actual room and not a pass through.

For people that insist everyone remove their shoes when entering the house, yes, you need a bench with shoe storage. Personaly, I keep tripping over the half dozen pairs of shoes my 2 housemates leave in front of the front door. I usually kick the shoes out of the way.

It is probably better to arrange your drop off zone cabinetry parallel to the entrance door wall, rather than perpendicular as is shown in the video. And it should be well ventilated.

Open up that area 3-4 feet from being right at the edge of the door and yes I wouldn’t mind some sort of drop zone. Not really sure about that thing though.

To anyone that has even half a care to be even slightly organized, this cubby and wall hook set up is a good idea. Just know that the more people who live in the home the more likely the bench will be used as a drop zone for bags

It takes away so much foot space, I have 3 dogs that are going to greet me with my kids and groceries etc, I think I’d rather have the space, BUT what about putting that exact built in, outside of the interior garage door so the stuff doesn’t even make it inside?

DROP ZONE ME PLEASE 😂😂😂
Or close in this area as ceiling to floor lockers.

Why do you refer to children as annoying little brats who don’t keep anything tidy? I hope you don’t have any children with that attitude.

Would be great for my family but we'd need 2 one at the front door and one coming off the garage

That's not a big enough dump space. It will overflow. 😂
