I haven't done this trick in so long that I forgot the process - but I only do it when I can use a person's name (that has 10 letters) to reveal the card. If I already know their name in advance and get them to "reveal" it to me then I get to apply misdirection with the patter or add a touch of mentalism.

For being a "beginner" trick, it's not terrible if you use it right. Make it personal to them and it will throw them off on how the trick is done.

If you use 27 cards, you can place the card anywhere in the deck based on a number chosen by the audience.

Alternative ending to that trick is when you know where the card is. You lay them out, face down in a random Pattern remembering where the 11th card is. Ask them to draw a line through the pile of cards, and you decide which ones you take away until there's only 2 cards and you flip over their card.

This trick is really simple, but once you know the card, you can add extra steps to make it seem like it’s not actually just math. For example, once you know the card, get them to shuffle them all again… then add something to distract from the fact you were just isolating and counting
