It's NOT a good idea to change index.php and htaccess. Those guides should be taken down as they promote poor security.

hmm, i keep getting a 500 error. what am i missing? no installation of laravel? how do you bring the application up and down? not sure this works - all other postings seem to indicate you need to mess with public_html. this looked promising ... but doesn't seem to work
