James Allen will always be my favorite commentator, he had a real passion for the sport and seemed genuinely excited by the racing. Crofty's pre rehearsed lines always do my head in, and he embarrassed himself yesterday with his Sim Racing comments.

I've never been Crofty's biggest fan, but over the years I've mellowed a bit in my dislike of him. Harping on about Max Verstappen staying up late was not cool though, that was just embarrassing.
James Allen was the lead commentator when I first started watching F1, so I have a soft spot for his commentary because of that (and I don't think he's as bad as some people say, I persoanlly think he's pretty good). I look back on 2011 quite fondly when we had Martin Brundle and David Coulthard commentating for the Beeb, but my favourite British F1 lead commentator is Ben Edwards, with an honourable mention to Alex Jacques.

Of course Ciaron- Murray Walker, James Allen or James Watson, or Walker with Hunt together- they were PREMIUM commentators, knowledgeable, with soul and really love for F1.. I would say that Coulthard is also very very good co-commentator, where Brundle was super when he was with Walker and with James Allen.. This sorry but I need to say shitheads like Croft ´´Crofty´´, Lazemby, Pinkham or Schiff or simillar- they are not, were not knowledgeable, they are artificial, without real emotions, and alway wants some idiotics sensation.. If I would meet with them on street, and asked them who was driving for Prost in 2001, or who was Luciano Burti, or when was KERS introduced, or something about for example 2004 season, or similar, they dont know anything.. I hate this, but problem is that this is in more or less in every sport like this. I mean also like 70% of drivers last 10-13years are without character, soul...

Maybe from this ´´new generation´´ I would say that Jake Humphrey with DC, EJ and Brundle was professional and was having sould and more knowledge.. And he was having I would say likeable voice.. Ted Kravitz is long in F1, yes, he was already in F1 when Walker was commentating, but he is also narciss, and when Walker and James allen were commentaors, he was also OK, but last 10 years he started to be idiot...

I think if you take up the job of an F1 lead commentator for UK TV, you can only aim to be second-best after Murray Walker. I think James Allen achieved that. Crofty’s alright, but Jonathan Legard was the worst of the lot.

The best are Murray Walker and martin brundle. After i prefer james allen.
