On the last day of the Communist Party’s week-long national congress, the spotlight was momentarily focused on the unexpected departure of former Chinese president Hu Jintao from the stage at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. A reporter from China's state-run news agency tweeted that Hu had been recuperating from an illness and was feeling unwell during the session. His staff accompanied to a room next to the meeting venue to rest, the reporter said. Hu’s sudden exit was a break from the otherwise scripted event, in which President Xi Jinping was officially reappointed as party secretary for an unprecedented third term.

It won't be a surprise if this is the last time we would see Former President Hu.

Well, they wanted him to rest, but I hope not in peace though.

The uncomfortable body language from everyone present suggests to me strongly that this was not just a case of "illness".

He was obviously forced to leave, but no one did or said something.

Nine years ago, Xi used two hands to shake hands and bow his head to Hu to express his deepest gratitude for promoting Xi to the top job. I’d bet Hu is really mad at himself now for the biggest mistake he made in his life.

When an ex President walks out but no one in the room even care to notice it, you know it's a world class show of hospitality towards elders.

I feel like he was forced out of the room because he questioned Xi-Jiping’s leadership.

Respect to him. He finished his term, and stay ordinary, without meddle things after his term. However, his successor disappoints everyone when he tries to revive dynasty ruling, making him a modern days emperor. Everyone suffers.

"Illness" and being "tired", classic euphemisms used in Chinese dramas about a character being disruptive and antagonistic against the villan of the show while the villan continues as uf nothing has happened.

No, I don't think former President Jintao was escorted to a nearby room 'to rest'.
