One thing that many don’t think about is all the money they got from countries like France, both in wartime and out of war. They were really important as the Swedish empire was very poor and the only thing they had to make them an empire was their army.

There is a mod for Victoria 2 and 3 where Sweden has their empire in 1836. It's called divergences in 3 and something like that for vic 2.

The carolean was Sweden's biggest advantage and weakness, while they were defeating enemies left and right, the Saxon, Polish, Russian and Danish armies can take a couple thousand losses while Sweden can be hurt with just a few hundred men.

That was kind of the issue; we were a glass cannon.
We hit hard as hell and punched way above our weight class but we could barely sustain any major defeats in battle.
Or a string of major bad luck, as one might put it.

And since we were going up against russia, attrition warfare and sheer numbers was eventually going to become a problem.

The only effective means of combating russia are means that most western powers wouldn't find acceptable in war.
You have to target their people and break their ability to produce and sustain an army altogether.
