Funny thing is, this makes perfect sense if you remember the episode "The Choices" (I think that's the one), in which Nicole revisits where alternate choices in her life would've taken her. In the case of doing everything the way it was originally intended, she becomes a tyrant that rules the world until she's eventually overthrown in an apocalypse.

-Nicole went to a villain school where she met Dr.Flugg and Lord Boxman(from Ok Ko)
-the company she works for is a subsidiary for Black Hat Orginization
-Nicole HAS went to them for weapons to apparently get Granny Jojo
-The Universe Remote Rob used was actually made by Dr.Flugg, who apparently stole it
-in the orientation videos, its shown Darwin also might work with Black Hat Orginization
and yes....this is ALL canon

Think about this and this fits with Nicole's backstory perfectly.
Nicole and Yuki were great friends and both became martial arts prodiges
then the Tournament happened and Nicole beat her.
Black hat seeing Nicole's talents enrolled her in Black hat's Villain academy.
Nicole graduated Villan - dictatorian and then met richard fell in love.
She had Gumball, adopted Darwin, had Anais and the rest is history.
