I thru hiked the AT in 2016 with my twin-brother. Sadly the Cookie Lady's husband passed away and she was struggling with the blue berry farm. On the day we were there we, about ten thru hikers, we picked a bunch of buckets of blueberries for her to sell. She was the sweetest person you'd ever want to know.

Can't wait to experience it all. I will be hiking it in four years when I retire at 66. I love your video you are inspiring

I never get tired of listening to your accent Dixie. It's like honey. Makes me proud to be a Southerner.

“Y’all’s experiences” I love hearing Americans from the south talk. I’m from Europe and I’m been wanting to come over and do the AT (and PCT) for years so this was a great watch!

The confession book would make the AT worthwhile by itself!

You are such an inspiration. In the world where Cardi B is thing of the year, watching your videos gives me hope. Thank you.

I grew up in norrh conway nh and thru hikers were a staple and welcome part of the community.
We had roughly 50 acres on the saco and my father often welcomed hikers to stay for a limited time as long as they simply honored the no trace rule.
That taught me a lot as mybfather was a reagan Republican old school korean war vet and to see him treat these " hippies" as many were mislabeled as by so many with such humanity and trust je LLP ed make me who i am today.

Je never got the chance to hikenthe AT before he passed, so i am making my goal to do it in his honor by 2021, when i turn 50.
Your cideos have been a hugw confirmarion that this dream needs to become real.. thank you for sharing with us

"You're grandparents are still there. They're living in MA." That was darling.

1. I dig the background you're in for this video.
2. The hospitality along the AT seems to be nearly otherworldly. It makes me feel like I need to be hiking the AT asap so that I can see this stuff before the traditions die off or the angels stop selflessly giving for whatever reason!!

Lol, she said "hose pipe" instead of water hose! That's the most Alabama thing I've heard all week. Thanks! (I say the same thing as I'm from there.)

Always Dixie, you never do disappoint me with the plethora of knowledge that you share with everyone who stops by.

I am a 67 year old that has backpacked all my life, but never for longer than 10 days at a stretch. Your videos and the zest for life they portray are an inspiration to me and, I recently learned, to my best hiking buddy. You are a pretty incredible young person. Keep it up and keep living each day fully. By the way, off to the JMT this fall so will be on the trail for a little longer than ten days. You should give the GDT a try some time. The real wild starts north of the border!

I look forward to your updates more than I did with Christmas when I was a kid. Thanks for the fun. :)

Nice video about the trail. Thru hiked 1989. Had a great time. Did the Ice cream challenge. My favorite stop was Rusty's Hard-time Hollow, with live mountain music in the evenings. I missed trail days, I walked through a week before. Thanks for giving me a chance to reflect back to the good old days on the trail.

1:35 The Pop-Tart! LMAO! I think I probably would do the same, rather than wasting it.
