The Truth About Being a Mom in Real Estate

I'm thinking today about what I wish I knew before becoming a mom while also running a top producing real estate team with my husband.

There's a conception that real estate is a great way to offer busy moms freedom and flexibility, but in my experience, the expectation vs. reality factor can be kind of jarring.

I am constantly getting questions from other busy mama's in the biz who are desperately looking for insights into how to really "have it all". I hope that this video shares a different perspective on how we can instead have what we need in this season of life.

I absolutely agree! As parents, we need to become all the more flexible and adaptable.

I found it hard, as a young mother/entrepreneur to follow advice from popular business books that told me to structure my day by the minute. How on earth was I supposed to do that while nursing?!

I feel that so much business advice is written from the lense of a single person who can focus their attention on work without dividing it with family.

I’ve learned that it’s important to be gentle with myself. And even brush off others who might say that I’m doing it wrong because I take time to prioritize my family. Or that at other times, I prioritize my work.

We’re all doing our best.

I love what you said who "the people most coaching/real estate curriculum is built for" people who have 8 hours a day to just "work". So true!

Thank you for making this video. I'm a 1st time mom and I started my real estate career this year as well and it's been such a learning year on both ends. I always felt like I wasn't working hard enough on both ends and i always seemed balance but it makes sense to think of it that way work integration or sacrificing something to do something else. Thank you for sharing hopefully I can be less hard on myself and stop comparing myself to other realtors.

Stephanie! Thank you so very much for making this video and saying what really needs to be said about being a mom and having a real estate business. The challenges we face are so very different than agents not struggling with time restrictions. I loved how you really broke it down and said that we have to find that give and take. We can't do it all at 100% all the time, but that doesn't mean we won't be successful. Not having to feel guilt, anxiety or shame that I'm not in the office everyday, I'm not spending 6 hours working from home on my business everyday, but that I am showing up and I will be successful with all that I'm able to put in! 🙏❤
