Zion Williamson - Righty In & Out Move

Zion Williamson. 2021 NBA All-Star. 26.4 points per game on 62.4% shooting from the field, 8.5 free throws and 7.1 rebounds (including 2.6 offensive) per game. At the time of writing (04/06/2021), he sits at 7th in the league in scoring - ahead of the likes of Nikola Jokic, Devin Booker, Kawhi Leonard, Donovan Mitchell, LeBron James, James Harden, Trae Young, and Jayson Tatum and has the MOST 2 point field goals in the league.

The long and the short of it: Zion is very left handed which makes most teams want to push him to his weaker hand. However (comma) Zion has perfected the best possible counter to this: an aggressive, explosive, in-and-out dribble with his right hand. It is so rapid that the defender has to pause for a half step and in that moment, Zion has already occupied whatever space he was being given to cushion the drive. The defender goes from in control, to in trouble, to completely out of the picture in that blink of an eye.

Per Cleaning the Glass, Zion is in the 95TH percentile among bigs in the “shooting fouled percentage” stat - that is the percentage of shot attempts he gets fouled on:
Zion Williamson - 23.0% SFLD
Giannis Antetokounmpo - 22.7% SFLD
Joel Embiid - 20.9% SFLD

Per Synergy, Zion is…well he’s either good, very good, or excellent at every type of play type. The stats that are worth drawing attention to are that when Zion drives right (in ISO situations), he generates 1.226 points per possession (PPP).
