The opening scene for the film "The Italian Job" (1969) featured Monro singing "On Days Like These".
Music by Quincy Jones and lyrics by Don Black.

Matt Monro (1 December 1930 -- 7 February 1985) was an English singer who became one of the most popular entertainers on the international music scene during the 1960's.

The Italian Job is a 1969 British caper film, written by Troy Kennedy Martin, produced by Michael Deeley and directed by Peter Collinson.
It's soundtrack was composed by Quincy Jones.

Quincy Jones (better-known for his production of several Michael Jackson records, and has worked with stars such as Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald) was handed the task of producing the music score for The Italian Job as director Peter Collinson wanted to give the pennyless musician a chance.

Apparently Quincy had no job, no money and he and his wife were expecting a baby, but he was talented. So producer Michael Deeley brought Quincy and his family over to England and set then up in a flat in Marble Arch and was commissioned hired.

The production team were worried about the last few minutes of the film as the editing was a little choppy and Quincy was credited in saving the film by creating a music score that pulled it all together.
Highly regarded lyricist Don Black wrote the lyrics for the two vocal tracks on the score - On Days Like These and Get a Bloomin' Move On. Matt Monroe sang "On Days Like These" as he was working with Don Black at the time.

This magnificent opening scene of the film was shot with star of Italian cinema, Rossano Brazzi, at the wheel of a Lamborghini Miura which, probably, was hired from or supplied by the factory to shoot this sequence.

The Lamborghini Miura made its first appearance at the 1965 Turin Motor Show when mid-engined road cars were nearly unheard of and it caused something of a sensation. The version used in the film is the first version, the P400 which was produced from 1966-69.

Lyrics On days like these

Questi giorni quando vieni il belle sole
la la la la la-la-la-la la la la la

On days like these when skies are blue and fields are green
I look around and think about what might have been
And then I hear sweet music float around my head
As I recall the many things we left unsaid
It's on days like these that I remember
Singing songs and drinking wine
While your eyes played games with mine

On days like these I wonder what became of you
Maybe today you are singing songs with someone new
I'd like to think you're walking by those willow trees
Remembering the love we knew on days like these
It's on days like these that I remember
Singing songs and drinking wine
While your eyes played games with mine

On days like these I wonder what became of you
Maybe today you are singing songs with someone new

Questi giorni quando vieni il belle sole
la la la la la-la-la-la ....

Having been inspired by these scenes in 1969, my late husband and I would drive the mountains of Europe most years until he died in 2021. It destroys me every time I hear this.😢😢

Frank Sinatra said that MATT MONROE was the greatest singer he had ever heard, who can disagree?

God I yearn for the 60s! An era of style and, above all, pride and optimism. I remember going to see the film at the cinema with my mates when it came out.
Flying to Geneva tomorrow, then on by train to Lago Maggiore. This was the perfect warm-up!

The '60s were a fabulous and stylish era. Nothing today comes close.

Beautiful song, sung brilliantly by Matt, in one of the best opening sequence to a film you're ever likely to see.

Played this at my mum's funeral in June. She loved her classical music but also loved her Matt Monro. His voice was sublime X

Some years ago I drove that road listening to this song.
It has to be said it wasn't quiet the same, I was in a bloomin' great motor home with my wife, 2 kids and my mother in the back but in my mind I was in a Lamborghini wearing wrap around shades and pulling on a Gauloises!😎

A song about a lost love if ever there was one, what an opening.

In memoriam, Quincy Jones. Still makes me always feel like a little bit of music dies with the passing of a composer of this stature.

Matt Monroe …….listening to his voice is like languishing in a bath of warm milk drinking honey poured from a velvet jug. Sublime!
