I'm just blown away at how Apple can have a near perfect (if not perfect) shot of whatever's on the front of your laptop computer without having an overhead camera - only a phone camera that is mounted on your computer.

if only it was higher quality and didnt make my hands look weirdly stretched then yes. Till then, its easier to just put together a DYI stand to keep your phone above your desk/hands

I think the webcam is really designed for people who are using external displays. I pretty much only use my laptop in clamshell mode when I'm at my desk, and just rely on my external monitors. This iPhone app would allow me to have a wonderful webcam instead of using a USB dedicated webcam.

Assuming that Apple allows Zoom to utilize this feature, it can be useful for teachers teaching online who want to write on a small whiteboard on their table to mimic what its like to write on and view a blackboard

I'm using it a lot actually, mostly for my MacStudio tho. I generally stick to the built in webcam for my MacBook.

And it's now literally my streaming webcam.

The desk view feature is cool but I already use my phone as a webcam with an app called iriun. It’s only basic but it’ll be nice to have the functionality native on Mac.

"on an old Mac" - or a new Mac, the iPhone camera is so much better than any webcam built into a Mac! Desk View is pretty insane. I think it can be used simultaneously with the wide camera too, right? (i.e. showing your face and the desk at the same time)

Been using EpocCam from Elgato to use my iPhone as a web-cam for a while. It's really great when you want to show somebody something in your place without having to lug a laptop around awkwardly.
