It doesn't look that bad. I am actually impressed that it ran SC1, LibreOffice and GIMP without a problem. So if MS can add 64-bit emulation support and if we can have a bit more powerful Snapdragon CPUs then these devices will be pretty usable.

It's actually quite nice looking, but it feels like a very expensive experiment, and the consumer is the subject.

Thanks for test and great channel! Would like to see a review of Surface Go, and running SC2 as well.

I'm hoping they did this as an experimental first stage of a long plan and strategy of those becoming a thing, because right now I really don't see the point.
3rd, 4th gen, when these mobile SoCs become even more powerful and less power hungry, perhaps. They also have to get cheaper, I see no point in this many sacrifices without a low entry price.
I can see it sold as a replacement for the Atom line of chips that was so suddenly discontinued. The risk is that something else might just catch up while these are still kinda fumbling around.
Biggest problem I see is that there are other encroaching alternatives that are not too far from also attending this market. For instance, the Rockchip SoCs that are becoming standard in devboards, set top boxes and whatnot is getting pretty robust, and those will definitely sell at a cheaper price point. Other mobile SoCs could develop similar solutions and probably be even more appropriate for the job, like Samsung's Exynos SoCs, or *gulp*, generic Mediatek stuff.
From an entire other perspective, there's Huawei phones and Samsung phones that can be turned into a desktop. Offshoot ideas like that Razer phone concept that turns into a laptop.
If chinese mid rangers keep evolving at the pace they are, at least some of them could get a full USB-C implementation that would enable them to work like the Huawei phone - one dongle solution to turn it into a desktop.
And then you do have Intel chips for cheaper/low powered devices like Core M that are also evolving and trying to compete. They are kinda expensive, but still...
Like, the Asus NovaGo is around 600 bucks at the lowest configuration right? How many better alternatives are out there at almost every spec point for this much? You have laptops with full Core i5 at that price point. You could get one of those GPD devices that would be more portable, and more powerful at around the same price point. A pro tablet for longer battery. Chromebooks for productivity, cheaper. Refurbish an older laptop with Linux. Adding 4G on any of those devices could be done with a pretty cheap-o dongle, or tethering.

The worst part of these right now is that they are pretty incompetent and kinda expensive jacks of all trade, master of none. From the tests Brad made, it's worse in productivity even when comparing to cheap-o Android tablets. Battery life is good, but not spectacular - like said, you could get similar longevity from other solutions. And at a weight that isn't exactly out of the ordinary, carrying an external battery can work for other devices.

Anyways, I do understand that this is a 1st gen product and all... but I was kinda expecting a bit more.

The GPU is 20% faster than the Intel HD 4000 which was decently capable of running almost everything at its time on the low TDP Surface Pro 1. You should test older AAA games like BF3, BF4, BioShock Infinite and see how it performs.

Great review but I have a better Idea 💡
Those games on Steam obviously are X86 and X64 Instructions
The device have to Emulate all of those
But there are games that's run natively on both X86 and ARM base
Those UWP game such Even Horizon 3 - 4 on the MicStore
Please do a review about that if you have time
We can easily judge how powerful the ARM only through the FPS

Nice video, stil its in development stage like amd had isue on games because of optimization and the point its that have more hours to use on battery on a usual laptop have much more less hours that use intel, amd
