My (second) new 16" MacBook Pro just arrived and I thought this would be a good time to show you how I setup a new Mac. In this video I go through some initial settings (FileVault Encryption, Siri Voice Recordings, Storing Files From Documents & Desktop on iCloud Drive, auto dark mode, etc.), the first 4 things I do when MacOS boots up, all the apps I download, the first settings I change and more!

Thank you. Some of your tips were very nice.

My three tips:

1. First of all, Finder "new window", i want it set to Desktop.
Finder (cmd comma) / General
New Finder windows show [Desktop]

2. Then, i want to see suffix.
Finder (cmd comma) / Advanced
Show all file extensions

3. As a Scandinavian i want to se the week number (of year) when clicking on the time in my menu bar.
Sys prefs / Language & Region / Advanced
Date / Full [add *week of year* here]

When i use a MacBook i want som extras. Maybe i'll get back with those.

You can use Spotlight to do quick computations too! Command + Space then do your math there, hands don’t need to leave the keyboard and less fiddling with widgets and the mouse/trackpad. Spotlight also has quick unit conversions e.g. “1m to in” or just “1m”.

I don’t know if these would be super helpful for you specifically, but two apps I recommend checking out is Agenda—my favorite note taking app—and Debit and Credit—my favorite way to manage all of my money in every way.

I didn’t think Yoink could be improved, but Dropover is my first choice now. Thanks!
I’m surprised you don’t use Popclip which gives you a customisable IOS style popup bar when you highlight text or tap shortcut key.
It makes cut paste options quicker, and you can add shortcuts to almost any app.

Another one I think you should try out is DefaultFolder X which gives you better save options. You can see all your tags and add them as you save, See your most recent locations, favourites.

Also Macupdater for automatically updating apps. You can also save previous versions in case you need to revert. It tells you if it Is major version upgrade. You can see release notes. Let’s you know which are apple store apps.

If you like a simple desktop background, you should try the built-in Solar gradients. It changes along with the time of day (to a degree), and the magic hour, blue hour and night colors are just awesome. (The regular daytime is a pretty bright blue; still good, but not as pleasing as the others.) I used to always have my own photos in the background, but have switched to this.

U should make time machine back ups (if u dont already). Setting all this up everytime u have a new mac sounds like a pain. Will be checking into those app too. Thanx 🤙🏿

I love how helpful you are, but in the B Roll the transitions wern't seamless at all cause of changing directions and other things I won't get into here also, there isn't depth in the background which triggers me cause cinematography, but issues aside, you are clearly an experienced mac user and help many people including me so thank you
