Did You Know In ETERNALS...

Ikaris, devastated by the defeat of Tiamut, commits suicide by flying into the sun. The death of this man is indeed an appropriate one for the man who inspired the Greek legend of Icarus, who was killed when his wings melted after flying too close to the sun. Unfortunately, in Eternals, the story of Icarus is actually told by Sprite, probably as a bit of a dig at the man she loves. In the end, Spirit's tale became a self-fulfilling prophecy. In the comics, the tragedy of Ikaris is told a little differently. According to the comics, Ikaris creates a pair of wings for his half-mortal son, but his son ends up getting burnt up by the sun and ending up in the sea due to the burns on his wings.

It wasn’t due to Tiamats defeat, it was because he realised he had turned his back and betraying his only family and he didn’t want to live with that guilt

The tale I heard, icarus was the son of Deadalus and they were trapped in their own labyrinth, thus, deadalus creates wings for them and icarus, not listening to his father, Flys too close to the sun and dies.

It seemed like he was more upset by the fact that he turned his back on his "family" and he is considered an outcast now so he regrets what he does and flies into the sun out of remorse

Actually the father who made the wings for his sun (and himself) was named Daidalos (who also made the Labyrinth of the Minotaur)and his sun was Icarus who did fly the close to the sun. That caused the wachs (used to attach the feathers) to melt and come apart. Which made him fall out of the sky to his death.

The Eternals comic I read had the child fly with solar powered wings. He was to fly only when his dad was around. Ignored that and flew too high and suffocated. The wings burned on reentry.

Im getting the impression he doesn't know that he killed himself because he realized he betrayed his family and not cause he helped kill tiamut

In the comics I find if amusing that Ikaris, known for not being the the sharpest tool in the Eternal's shed, would be the basis for the mythical Daedalus, one of mythology's smartest guys.

It's almost like everyone and their grandparents complained about him fly into the sun at the end of the movie because it's one the the most commonly known stories in mythology.

The funny part to me is that if he has the same flying speed like in the comics, it took him like 12 years to reach the sun 🤣
