You get fat in 6 years when working on junk.

All this comment section taught me was there’s an infinite amount of you getting absolutely fucked over by your employers and tool trucks and y’all let it happen 💀

All my tools are either craftsman or Shittsburgh. Because they got lifetime warranty and you dont have to wait a month to get a tool back.

I spent about 5 years, working as an auto mechanic. After attending an automotive trade school. I learned that the job sucks! Long hours, often 6 days. Crappy pay and benefits. Most repair shops don’t offer any benefits. No retirement plan. All while you shell out 1000’s of dollars to Snap On tools. Mac tools, Matco, etc. I left to work in commercial construction. Unionized. Excellent pay and benefits. Auto “technician “ is a mediocre job. Even a drywall taper with no English. Can earn more money on a regular basis. Sad but true.

Mechanic for 22 years and never needed those giant ass toolboxes with overpriced tools from the tool truck that I'll only use once.

everyone's confuseds in the comments. 1st year techs usually only do oil changes and tires or other small stuff. 6 years you should be able to do anything

So glad I decided not to become a tech. Have a huge love for cars and working ON MY OWN, but it's honestly just a hobby for me. Pay is garbage and you are over worked and under appreciated. You also have to have a BS auto degree to even be considered nowadays. I feel bad for the young techs who buy into the strap on man. It's honestly a scam at this point. I know several old mechanics who always told me to stay away from snap on. They buy cheap GOOD tools and are more than happy with them. By the way, I've never met a happy old tech. They always talk about how much they hate their lives and jobs.

Great mate, I started to work in mechanic back in my Country Brazil after had a basic course on 2004, came to USA in 2009 I worked as Dish washer, clotting trees, cleaning company, Carpentry, painting… until got a chance at a Nissan Dealership in 2011, so after that just had worked at mechanic shops until opened my own shop last Year, next 22 will be my first year as garage owner, I’m very happy and I bet you Don’t regret as well.

I don't understand if this channel is trying to bring appreciation for technicians or just clout for some TikTok dumb shit. But being a tech isn't very fun - I'm almost 10 years in, the pay is okay but busting knuckles, banging your head, destroying your hearing, breaking your back... Brings a big toll to your body. My advice get into sales or service writing if you want in on the industry, you don't need to know shit about cars and you make tripple what techs make. Totally fucked.

Can report that in 6 years I am only 4lbs heavier but have acquired thousands of dollars in tools.

I left after my first semester, was tough trying to maintain 2 apartments, 3 hours apart, homework, and zero cash coming in. Plus I was getting minimum wage in a bad time in the economy. A lot of mechanics left…

Been a Diesel mechanic for 20. I do enjoy my job at times. Things are way better then it used to be. We are treated pretty well with the shortage. The main thing that sucks is regardless of how many years you have experience. You will do the dirty work because of the shortage. When I first started in 02. Guys my now age. Did gravy work. That’s long gone. Also most shops got rid of Foreman and they call it a Lead. It’s a bullshit title that’s the same without the supervisor title and benefits. I work for garbage. Work day shift and have the weekends off. Cannot complain to much.

I loved seeing the transition, screw everyone else. My guy got lots more tools and everyone knows you’re not really a hard worker if your tool box doesn’t have stickers and I’m sure you perfected your craft. Keep it up man💪🏽
