we first thing we do in germany too. we do this out of politeness and to avoid traffic jams. unfortunately, there are always some who don't keep to it. not all of them are small children who have to learn this first, but unfortunately also some older people.

If only Japanese would respect that rule of “waiting people to get off the train first”…
Just last night I was coming from a gig, I was carrying a bass and some luggage, and had a difficult time getting off the train because of this stupid salaryman trying to force himself in.
