Ya my wife just started and I really miss zoro bursting out laughing but he does slowly stop laughing I've noticed but I do agree the time skip broke zoro. I feel the hopeless feeling of not being there for his captian or crew broke him and with that much of his joy, only to help him strive further in strength. But we hope he let's it out eventually

Zoro stopped laughing when he realized that he was so weak compared to mihawk and that he was so used to pursuing weaklings.

Oda didn’t do it to make him stoic. Idk how people miss it. Oda made zoro more serious to show character development. Zoro nor the rest of the crew wasn’t there for luffy during his hardest moment. Zoro realizing how weak he was cause he couldn’t even be there, he threw away his ambition and asked the guy he strives to overcome to train him. And then for 2 whole years trained under mihawk who is a very serious swordsman.
