Sorry everyone for the larger than normal amount of "cuts". I try to do these things in one take, but I have a lingering cough that is just obsessed with me and doesn't want to leave - and I figured none of you would want to hear/see that!

That's amazing. I already have 130 books on my list to read in 2023, but let's see which one I'll end up reading. Good luck with your 2023 TBR, Matt. MANY AMAZING books here. Many I've read, and some I haven't, too!

Your videos are a welcome addition to my feed of late. Your positive vibes and passion for the genres you read simply makes me excited to read (and listen) to more books myself.

Memory, Sorrow and Thorn was also the primary influence for GRRM to write A Song of Ice and Fire. It's very slow but the writing is beautiful. Hope you end up loving it.

Just finished โ€œSixteen Ways to Defend a Walled Cityโ€ this evening. Easy 5/5. Such an entertaining, interesting, poignant, and funny book. It was a very unique book and that can be so hard to find. Maybe this is why some people donโ€™t like it, it certainly doesnโ€™t follow a standard book formula. I look forward to finishing this series and hearing your thoughts Matt. Excited to see your channel continue to grow in 2023.

I got 'The Umbral Storm' in the mail today. Hoping I like it. I remember enjoying 'The Black Tongue Thief.' The Prince of Nothing is one of my favorite trilogies, and I look forward to reading the following Aspect-Emperor 4 part series. I Dnf 'Kings of Paradise.'

Excited for your thoughts on Bakker. I personally don't see how people compare it with Malazan, its big in scope and philosophy but its so different and unique to anything I've read before. It's its own thing for sure. Hope you enjoy it ๐Ÿ˜Š

Definitely read up to the end of Discworld, the last three may not be the best written but some in there really packs a punch.

Woah! It's going to be an amazing year. Great to see some Gemmell here.

Enjoy Sword of Kaigen! It's a very good book but has such an interesting structure and story. The characters are all complicated and SUPER flawed. I will say, love it or hate it, I think you'll definitely have a lot of thoughts about the book; it's boldly written and certainly doesn't shy away from trying some interesting things.

Good on you for trying The Darkness That Comes Before! Prince of Nothing is my favorite series, hands-down. I'll look forward to your thoughts on it!

Interesting list. Seriously recommend Parker and Gemmel books. These people know (in Gemmel's case: knew) how to write engaging stories.

I'm very worried for you reading The Stand and The Dark Tower before reading other King novels. I feel like we share very similar opinions about fantasy books, and I know that from your review of 11/22/3 that all the things that were drawbacks to you about that book are going to be cranked up to 11 in The Stand. Which is a shame, because if you're anything like me you would very much enjoy Salem's Lot, The Shining, Pet Sematery, Insomnia, etc. Just don't give up on King even if you hate The Stand and every book in Dark Tower!

I love Malazan and Prince of Nothing. They aren't similar at all, at least I'm terms of character, world and plot. Thematically there is some crossover, but lots of separation as well.
I really need get back and read the sequel series by Bakker.

I've read most of KJ Parker and I don't think you should start with the Sieges trilogy. It's great, don't get me wrong, but not up there with his Engineer trilogy and Fencer trilogy.

The last thing I want to do is discourage anyone from trying Parker because I Iove his books. I hope you do too. If Sieges isn't as good as you hope, I hope you will try one of his other trilogies or some of his standalones.
