Microbiome and Short Chain Fatty acids in Metabolic Diseases

Nupur Pandya is a graduate student in the Layden Lab at the UIC Department of Medicine. Here she presents her preliminary research and future plans exploring the role of fiber in protecting against metabolic dysfunction. We have shown that whole-body short-chain fatty acid-sensing signaling mechanisms, through FFA2 and FFA3, protect against the western diet through alterations in energy expenditure.
