A huge help for this, clean up any solder off the piece first by sanding it. It should only be visible in the places it connected, not part way up the bail and on the backplate. If you begin by removing the excess silver solder, this will go a lot better, as only a small line in the connection points are the only places you actually need the plating to happen.

Thank you. Can you repeat the process to build up a thicker copperplate? Also, since this method destroys the steel wool, is there any benefit to using this method instead of electroplating to make a copper electrolyte solution with the vinegar/salt method and copper anodes?

So essentially to copper plate something without messing with electricity I can do this with your recipe but does this only work with your piece if it's already copper? Or can you use a piece that is iron or aluminum etc with your recipe??? ( or in order to do that I must use something like "Jax Copper Plating Solution".

if indeed your non electric plating method ONLY works on something that is ALREADY originally copper, what is the essential ingredient difference between your recipe and what is in Jax's.

I've see other videos plating without electric using a recipe of

formic acid +distilled water + copper oxide = ability to copper electroplate NON COPPER metals WITHOUT electricity.

However if I can use your ingredients ( alot more accessible and less scary than the recipe above) I would really prefer it.

Thanks for this helpful tip. But I do wish someone would come up with copper solder. Is there some technical reason that copper solder can't be made?
