Pavel Gatsoev has spent 20 years

building his dream home from scratch

using materials found in nature

The house is mostly made of stones

that he collected from a nearby river

(SOUNDBITE) (Russian) 70-YEAR OLD RUSSIAN PENSIONER, PAVEL GATSOEV, SAYING:

"You don't have to pay for it, here you can collect as many stones as you want and build. I don't have money, if I had, then I would also build a brick house, like this one - a two-storey house. But I do not have money for this, so we decided to make it out of stone."

Pavel and his wife Svetlana

also live a self-sufficient lifestyle

and grow food, raise cows, and make cheese
