How did you get straight to C:\Documents and Settings\videocapture>? When I open the command prompt, I get C:\Windows\system32> When I entered the same command prompt as you did, nothing changed.

if your flash is say E rather than F do you type E where F is on your video?
also when you type exit should it just disappear without having to press enter?

Not for my 1TB external drive but ....after Googling for 3 days without success THIS worked for me:

Open Start and typing CMD to open Command Prompt Window;
Type “chkdsk g:/f” (if the external hard drive is Driver g:), click Enter;
Now, it will start repairing damaged files, it will ask if you want to save lost chains into another location. Click "Yes".
