There should’ve been two prequels called Def Jam: Old Skool (1980s) and Def Jam: Fight For LA (1990s).

Where we play as characters in teams (like in The King of Fighters) of legendary rappers such as N.W.A., Public Enemy, KRS ONE, Run D.M.C., Beastie Boys, Geto Boys, Salt-N-Pepa, 2 Live Crew, Digital Underground, Naughty by Nature, X-Clan, EPMD, etc.
