Night Sky Ending Explained, Simmons co-stars with Sissy Spacek and Chai Hansen in Amazon Prime Video’s new outer space mystery-box series

Amazon Prime Video's new sci-fi thriller, "Night Sky" delivers just such a fantastic destination in their latest puzzle-box offering that enters our orbit starting today (May 20) to join our picks for the top sci-fi TV shows on Amazon Prime this month.

In this eight-episode series created by Holden Miller (comedian Dennis Miller's son), Academy Award winners Sissy Spacek ("Carrie," "Homecoming") and J.K. Simmons ("Spider-Man," "Whiplash") play Irene and Franklin York, two normal senior citizens in rural Illinois who years ago discovered an ancient gateway to a deserted planet in their humble backyard garden shed. This weird chamber teleports them to an abandoned alien base on a remote world where the married couple has arranged a cozy living room observation area to relax within.

Loved Outer Range, but Night Sky feels much more mysterious and intriguing. The portals give me a Myst vibe. The Caerul scenes are beautiful and alien. Cissy Spacek and JK simmons acting is brilliant and believable. As excited for season 2 as excited I am for The Boys season 3. Great work Amazon

We have a problem. A streaming tv service problem that can't understand a cult following. This show is strong. Just because they didn't have the numbers they want it, they immediately drop it. Forgetting it takes time for it to catch on. They keep pulling the rug out from under the viewers...

Just re-watched. From a marketing standpoint, I get it being canceled. It's too good. Audiences don't have the patience for this depth of plot anymore. More interested in 30 second, flash/bang Tiktok shorts.

This show has good production values, stellar performances by the entire cast, and a compelling storyline. At the end of Season 1, I was left vigorously longing for a season 2, or at least a novel I could purchase to continue the adventure, but this is not to be. There is no novel, and season 2 was cancelled only six weeks into production of season 1. From one writer to another, kudos to Mr. Holden Miller for a truly beautiful concept and story.

I REALLY enjoyed Night Sky! As others have said, a big part of the enjoyment is watching the individual performances from JK Simmons and Sissy Spacek...these two are special actors! Their performances, from not only their words but their mannerisms, and how they deliver both, is outstanding.

I appreciate that this is NOT an up-in-your-face, "aliens bursting from the chest", "little green men" sci-fi drama. The tension and suspense is VERY nuanced and keeps you involved. Not much blood and gore or "shock factor"...but more than enough intrigue to keep you coming back for more.

I GET what's going on here but have been pleasantly surprised when I found out I had it wrong. That's far more than I can say for "Outer Range" which, IMHO, was simply too convoluted and confusing to fully enjoy.

As a "seasoned" individual, I can readily relate to some lapses in attention, minor confusion and forgetting some minor details on occasion. Aging is a fact of life...doing it gracefully is an art form.

Omg, a huge thank you to the director, producers and wonderful actors - all of them! How amazing it is to witness Spacek and Simmons in action - their acting was so natural. And the other actors were awesome, as well. This is tge type of sci- fi series I love - a tight script, no wokeness (fed up with leftists who have ruined many a good film and series)! A thoroughly good series with a balanced combination of action, a lil humor, a bunch of heart, and edge-of-the-seat thrill and chills! Please have a Season 2 and maintain the same brilliancy! Bravo, bravo!

I binged the entire season over the weekend. It is GREAT! I found it to be a unique take on a sci-fi story with more depth, heart and intelligence than most if not all sci-fi shows. It is a story about relationships and love inside a thrilling sci-fi envelope IMO. The cinematography is beautiful & I plan to re-watch this on my huge projector screen to make the most of it.

As others wrote, the acting is incredible. Sissy Spacek and JK Simmons are great, as usual. I loved the supporting actors, too, most of whom I've never seen before. It is not your typical fast paced, special effects focused sci-fi show, which many giving low reviews likely expected and want in a show like this. The Roger Ebert review was surprising and IMO misguided.

If you only want mindless, big special effects sci-fi you will not like this show. If you want great acting & a unique story with soul and imagination, this show is for you!! Can't wait for Season 2!!

Excellent show! I have already binge-watched the entire season. It's literally a joy to watch Sissy and J.K. plying their craft. The plot is really intriguing too. This show is best enjoyed if you are a person over 45 because there is depth and nuance with character exploration. Younger folks seem to want a faster, shallower pace from the reviews I see here.

I loved Night Sky by Amazon! I’m sad I watched all of the episodes so quickly, and now it’s over for me! Sissy Spacek and JK Simmons were wonderful as always. Chai Hansen did a great job of making Jude kind, but mysterious, as well as, smart but childlike. I really enjoyed his character.
The storyline has unlimited paths that it can take. It deserves a second season. I see that some reviews say that the pacing was slow, but I feel like that was intentional and coincided with Franklin and Irene’s lives.
Great job, Amazon! Loved it!
