The Mogami-class frigate is a new class of warship being built for the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF). The class is designed to be a multi-mission frigate, capable of performing a variety of tasks, including anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, and anti-air warfare. The Mogami-class is also designed to be stealthy, making it difficult to detect by radar.

The Mogami-class is based on the design of the Japanese X-2 Shinshin stealth fighter. The class has a length of 132.5 meters, a beam of 16.3 meters, and a full load displacement of 5,500 tons. The frigate is powered by a CODAG (Combined Diesel and Gas) propulsion system, which consists of one Rolls-Royce MT30 gas turbine and two MAN Diesel V28/33DD STC engines. The Mogami-class has a top speed of over 30 knots and a range of over 10,000 nautical miles.

The Mogami-class is armed with a variety of weapons, including a BAE Systems Mk. 45 mod. 4 5-inch naval gun, two Japan Steel Works 12.7mm Remote Weapon Systems, a Mk. 41 Vertical Launch System (VLS), and a Raytheon SeaRAM close-in weapon system. The frigate is also equipped with a variety of sensors and electronic warfare systems.

The Mogami-class is the first new class of warship to be built for the JMSDF in over 20 years. The class is designed to replace the JMSDF's aging Asagiri-class and Abukuma-class destroyers. The first Mogami-class frigate, JS Mogami, was launched in March 2021 and commissioned into the JMSDF in April 2021. The JMSDF plans to build a total of 22 Mogami-class frigates.

The Mogami-class frigates are a significant addition to the JMSDF's fleet. The class is designed to be a multi-mission frigate, capable of performing a variety of tasks. The Mogami-class is also designed to be stealthy, making it difficult to detect by radar. The commissioning of the Mogami-class frigates is a sign of the JMSDF's continued modernization and its commitment to maintaining a strong maritime presence.

In addition to its military capabilities, the Mogami-class frigates also have the potential to be used for a variety of non-military missions, such as disaster relief and humanitarian assistance. The class's stealth design and its ability to operate in a variety of environments make it well-suited for these types of missions. The Mogami-class frigates are a significant addition to the JMSDF's fleet and they have the potential to play a major role in the future of the Japanese navy.

As a former 7th fleet sailor USS Kitty Hawk Yokosuka Japan I have a lot of respect for the JMSDF. They consider themselves as a little brother of the USN and we don't dispute that. Don't let Japanese Maritime Self Defense force fool you.

If you want to know what the US Navy would be like if it was smaller and had no carriers it would be the JMSDF, and you REALLY don't want to fuck with them they would steam roll many competent Navies and would push Chinas shit in violently.
