RDJ portrayed Strauss so well you look at the expressions you could see the pettiness and vindictive nature he had slowly coming out

The Oppenheimer hearing really destroyed his career as not only it ruined Strauss’s reputation but he pissed off a lot of scientists

But let's not forget that behind Strauss there was Edward Teller, who always held a grudge against Oppenheimer since Los Alamos, because he didn't support him to work independently on the Super. Not only that, but he went on to establish his own rival laboratory: the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

Oppenheimer embarrassed Strauss twice in front of Congress. Strauss was both petty and vindictive and as Chairman of the AEC in the position to get even with Oppenheimer for, what Strauss viewed, as public humiliation by Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer, although highly intelligent, was often not very smart in how he conducted himself and had told the FBI two different stories in regard to an approach by a suspected Russian agent. Strauss seized on this contradiction as demonstrating that Oppenheimer could not be trusted with nuclear secrets going forward and had Oppenheimer's clearance revoked.

This was a complete setup by Strauss as Oppenheimer's consulting contract was ending and all Strauss had to do was not renew the contract for the same result. Instead, he wanted to attempt to embarrass Oppenheimer publicly just like Oppenheimer had embarrassed him.

JFK had the insight to vote “NO” on Strauss’ confirmation hearing.

The movie is a must see, especially in IMAX. This info would be useful to know before seeing the movie. I found the wide range of characters presented in the beginning a bit bewildering but found the last third of the movie with its portrayal of Strauss versus Oppenheimer to be well acted and very dramatic. A really intense conclusion to the film.

Strauss pointedly pronounced his family name Straws to distance himself from his German Jewish ancestry so as not to impact upon his political ambitions.

Outstanding movie and superb acting. This was useful to know, thank you. RDJ played Strauss brilliantly. He should get a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his portrayal.

Strauss's animosity for Oppenheimer is of tremendous importance in our history.

This article doesn’t record that Strauss was an active supporter of sharing atomic development being shared with the infant state of Isreal and that he was actively attempting to escalate the investigation against Oppenheimer and by so doing placing himself in a higher position. Appointment was denied mainly by the efforts of JF Kennedy who later was assassinated

I'd say the biggest cost is his legacy, as he will be by far most remembered for this rather than any of his accomplishments.

The end made me wondsr if Strauss hated JFK enough to have to be part of the assassination plot.

J.Robert Oppenheimer could have used a publicist! lol My favorite scene was at the end when he visited Harry Truman. First, Oppy and me the viewer, think that Truman was being naive but then Truman blasts him. No spoiler, just watch the movie.

RD Jr's performance was a pleasant surprise in Oppenheimer

As per what I noted Strauss super valuated the "humiliation" from Opemheimer. In the movie the two situation that happened doesnt seems a plausivle excuse to try to crucify Robert.
