Budget no question. Being the "cool dad" and giving the something so valueable will just make them spoiled and unable to realise its not a small thing to own something like that, teach them appreciation by making them work for something like that.

The original intrest in pcs comes from a need for an upgrade, there is more intrest in learning how to make your pc faster than learning why your pc is fast

Meet in the middle, 5070 ti (maybe 5080), nothing overboard, but still you will still be the cool dad, and with the 5070 ti, you've given something that will last long, and perform well, and won't be as ridiculous as a 5090 for a 1st PC. 👍

As a kid, my dad got me a budget yet solid PC and told me that I have to upgrade it myself with money that I earned and research that I did myself. One of my favorite things have is that pc. It was a great gift and an amazing life lesson that taught me a lot about managing my savings and doing my research on what was compatible with the stuff that I had. TLDR: a future proof budget PC could not only be a way to play video games, but also a way to learn valuable skills.

I wanna say go all in but from a perspective i have learned to love my low end pc as a gift and once i started working i was upgrading it and now i love it because of all of the hard work put into it and i leanred to take care of it so i would give him the budget pc so he can learn to take care of it and appreciate it

As a person who recently bought my first computer (teen) here's my take. You should go for a mid range build with a good upgrade path, am5 but definitely not the #1 parts like a 5090, gotta raise them humble to appreciate the beauty of the full potential of gaming. Also PCs are a great way of showing the direct benefits of saving (so they can upgrade) rather than just seeing that they got 20$ of interest this year on their savings account. You are genuinely such a great parent so best of luck with this! ❤

I’d start them off with a budget PC that they can work to upgrade over time, whether it be from doing extra chores around the house or getting a job later on to pay for the parts
