Snow White Is Not What They Said It Was (Review)

Disney's live action Snow White remake has officially released to terrible reviews from both critics and audiences. And after watching the movie myself, it's easy to see why. As there are many issues with this film from pacing, to dialogue, to the overall plot, and while Rachel Zegler gives a good performance, and there are a couple good moments, they are not enough to save this absolute boring, mess of a film. In this Disney Snow White review, I go over all the negatives and positives in the film.

Finding an empty seat was super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Pretty amazing how Disney keeps calling these movies "live-action" when 90% of them are CGI. The really sad part is that it isn't even good CGI.

Hold on.

The "children's" animated movie had the Evil Queen defeated by being crushed by a boulder... and the "more mature and grounded" CGI movie had the Evil Queen defeated by... Snow White calling her a big meanie?

And we're supposed to take this seriously?

I agree with Rachel. It's definitely not 1937 anymore. In 1937 they still made good movies.

Just watch the original 1937 film. It's still a wonderful movie

The original Snow White was meant to be the embodiment of innocence. The Queen was meant to be the evil trying to destroy that innocence. And the dwarves were meant to be the ones defending and protecting that innocence. Much like a parent trying to protect their child's innocence for as long as possible, before the cynicism of the real world rips it away. Snow White wasn't meant to be some fantastical tale about a princess "overcoming her self doubt" and "dethroning" the evil Queen.

If anything, the Queen's hubris and evil ultimately being her own downfall was a much better message than, "You can topple a monarchy if you just tell people you're nice."

Honestly, this film just felt like Rise of Skywalker levels of trying and failing to pander to both sides.

What baffles me was how Rachel said how the Prince was "stalking" Snow White in the original. Umm, did we see the same movie? The Evil Queen was the one stalking her. She watched her through a Magic Mirror without her knowing. She sent a dude to straight up murder her. She changed into an old hag to trick her. The Prince only meets her like twice.

This film straight up deserves to flop.

Snow White and the 14 disposable characters to massage the Zego's ego.

So she wasn't saved by the prince, but by a male hobo bandit, shame he wasn't written out of the script like she wanted, then Snow White would just stay in the coma and the film would be over in half the time.

so sneaky of them to not show the bandits in the trailer, basically trying to make it out like the film follows the original the whole way through. so pathetic. i won't be wasting my money on watching it.

The 1937 movie will still be relevant and revered for decades after everyone has forgotten about this trash.

The 2015 live-action adaptation of Cinderella stands out as one of the best Disney Princess reimaginings to date. Unlike many other attempts at modernizing classic tales, Cinderella remained faithful to the heart of the original story while expanding on its characters in meaningful ways. The film’s respect for the source material was evident not only in its stunning visuals and costumes but also in its thoughtful character development. Lily James brought warmth and sincerity to Cinderella, while Cate Blanchett’s portrayal of the wicked stepmother added layers of complexity to an otherwise one-dimensional villain. The film’s emphasis on kindness, courage, and forgiveness upheld the timeless values of the original animated classic.

In stark contrast, the recent Snow White adaptation failed to deliver the same respect for its iconic story and characters. While there were fleeting moments that paid homage to the 1937 animated film, they felt superficial and disconnected from the rest of the movie. The changes made to the narrative stripped the story of its charm and moral depth, fundamentally altering what made Snow White such a beloved fairy tale.

One of the most glaring issues was the casting. Rachel Zegler, while talented in other roles, felt miscast as Snow White, lacking the delicate innocence and warmth that defined the original character. Similarly, Gal Gadot’s portrayal of the Evil Queen—despite her natural charisma—failed to capture the elegance and chilling menace that the role demands. Both actresses seemed burdened by a script that attempted to reinvent the story in ways that felt misguided rather than innovative.

The screenplay itself bears much of the blame for this misstep. Rather than enhancing the classic tale, the writers seemed determined to deconstruct it, ultimately discarding the core themes that have resonated with audiences for generations. The heart of Snow White—a story about inner beauty, kindness, and finding strength through adversity—was lost beneath forced dialogue, unnecessary plot changes, and an awkward attempt to modernize the narrative.

In the end, the 2015 Cinderella succeeded because it embraced the story’s original spirit while thoughtfully expanding its themes. The recent Snow White, on the other hand, felt like a misguided attempt to distance itself from its roots, resulting in a film that lacked both heart and identity. Whoever was responsible for the screenplay clearly misunderstood the enduring magic of this cherished fairy tale.

I wouldn't watch this garbage remake of Snow White even if it was the last movie on earth. 😡💔💢

Disney could have started a franchise of Snow White. Instead of a remake, they could have come up with Snow White, A New Adventure and then come up with an original script/story.

I'll STILL watch the 88-year-old original over this thing!
