Ermagerd! Sounds Bad! - Super Separator Trick (Bitwig style) Part 2

In my previous video about de-masking with Dan Worrall's "Super Separator Trick" (but done the Bitwig way), a few people complained that the trick sounded "too phasey" (too comb-filtered). This is because I was exaggerating the effect to make its demasking easy to hear, and I assumed that Bitwig users would just download the rack and discover the "Attenuate" control for themselves. YouTube being what it is, that was a bad assumption on my part, so here's a video showing that you have all the control you need to achieve some appreciable de-masking WITHOUT too much noticeable "phasing" (comb filtering).

Video link to the original Dan Worrall video. It's a fantastic technique; thanks so much, Dan, for sharing this with the community!

If you enjoyed this video, please do me a solid and not only like the video (and subscribe to my channel), but also give me a follow on my TWO different artist accounts on Spotify! Thanks!

Good explanation mate - nice job

I think some people are missing the point. This is a technique you use almost as a last resort. There is a change in the tone compared to the clean signal, there is always a compromise. When these two sounds are isolated they have your complete attention and it's easy to pick out the differences. When it's in the context of a full mix with drums, bass, risers, foley etc.. not so much. The artefacts will become much less noticeable but the perceived distinction between the two sounds might be worth it.

If uncertain, A-B compare in the context of the mix. spam the mute fx button so you don't know if it's on or off. Do some blind listening and choose which one sounds best, off or on.

Great work Baphy, thanks. How does this compare with a spectral ducker like trackspacer or whatever other vst you recommended once?

Im still gonna use sidechain it to do not have this little dance around. Maybe more CPU hungry technique but quicker and works well every time.
