22 YEARS Living OFF-GRID in an EARTHSHIP!

In this tour we visit Earthship Biotecture to tour Kirsten's off-grid Earthship. Earthships are made using a combination of natural, waste, and repurposed materials. These unique homes are completely self-sufficient by creating their own energy using solar power, harvesting and filtering their own water, having the ability to grow food in their interior greenhouses, and best of all they need no air conditioning. Kirsten has lived in Earthships for over 22 years!

This type of housing has been popularized for about three decades now. It was much more affordable back then. Today, it costs as much or more to build this type of home as it costs to just buy a commercially produced home. I am estimating around $300, 000.00 to fund an Earth'ship build today. Including land, permits, contractors, etc. Meaning: These may be "SELF SUSTAINABLE" homes. But, they are certainly not affordable for the vast vast majority of people if my estimates are even 1/3 correct.

Eco Build Lab sounds like normalization of Earthship ethos is happening! Keep Going!

Beautiful and only 2 things I don't like is that she doesn't have a bed room door, ... I feel much more save if there is another door I can close...and the other thing is I hate the boring and super hot desert, because I really LOVE LOVE LOVE the cold I love the forest and mountains with snow on top...so its just the wrong place for me.... I would love this home somewhere up in Canada or Montana surrounded by lakes and tones of trees!!!

Fantastic! Recycling and natural energy would be a great solution for every single building on Earth, but what I see as a problem is people's unwillingness to learn. Most investors and builders would rather work in "classic" ways even if that means spending much more money on literally everything (except to pay workers) and more pollution than to change their ways. People are lazy, that's our issue. Me included. But, well I am not young anymore, it's to this new generation to accept this new ways. I hope.

Totally my dream house. My concern is; would it works well in a nordic climate? I’m in Canada

I would like to see some real use of drip irrigation to grow foods for the residents .If residents still eat from grocery stores mostly ..that needs to be fixed .It' s beautiful but must feed you too.
IMO

As a lover of music I would suggest the segue music might be more appropriate with natural acoustic instrument sounds. I watched the episode all the way through, kudos to Ms. Kirsten and her organization.

Does she live in a newer earthship? So many of these videos seem to have earthships that the owners rent out on airBNB rather than live in themselves.

Fantastic thank you. One question; why earthships don’t use composting toilets?
