I don't understand how people think this is hunting. It's not. This is straight up sadistic. There's no sportsmanship or respect for the animals, any animal involved. Just straight up torture.

Hunting is actually having patience and waiting and having the skill to properly track and kill in the most humane way possible and having respect for the animal. I do hunting on horseback BUT we aren't chasing any actual animals. Our 'fox' is just a guy that runs a preset route with treats in his pockets. It's much more humane since we aren't actually harming anything. The dogs are actually used in search and rescue normally so this little exercise also helps them in tracking as they are covering long distances over variable terrain looking for one specific scent. We don't go over any dangerous terrain on horseback, we'll get off and lead if need be or find a way around the obstacle so the horses don't get hurt either. This is also training for us as there are times where it's more efficient to be on horseback while looking for someone lost in the woods or mountains here, but we also need to learn how to navigate with a horse. And teach the horses we use that trees, streams, branches...don't spook at those. Since we go out in some less then favorable conditions. But we also aren't riding dainty little warmbloods meant for the show ring either. These are sturdy tough working horses. We don't use ponies because between our weight, the tack, and all our gear we would be outside the 20% rule on a pony.

My family has hunted as far back as anyone can recall. We were taught to only kill what you needed, and use every part of the animal so that you don’t waste. Bones are great for gardening, the meat for food, everything that can’t be safely eaten by humans is fed to livestock, or ground down and used as fertilizer. This is a deplorable act that was started to show your status, I have a hunting dog, and a service dog. The hunting dog does not chase or harm any animal that isn’t endangering me, and he only tracks animals that didn’t drop on the spot. Trophy hunting is disgusting, and sadly I don’t think it’s ever going to go away.

What makes it worse for me is the fact that the fox probably cant ever run away, foxes are very agile and could usually escape, especially in a forest, but being stuck underground for that long, no food, no water, too scared to rest, its already exhausted, it simply wouldnt have the strength to get away anymore

How could someone do something like this, the animation captures how the fox is so panicked, people might just see this as a hunting thing, but in the eyes of the fox, this feels like the worst thing someone could ever go through. Dogs aren't what makes this inhumane, what makes it inhumane is that the hunt doesn't have a purpose beyond torturing an animal for the amusement of men. Real hunting strives towards a balanced ecosystem, achieved with the minimum amount of suffering caused.
