OMG just the cover and you can tell this was early 80's. What a treasure.

I love coming across old catalogs in game boxes. Oh, the nostalgia...

That was a blast to watch. Made me realize I have a lot of their 70's and early 80s wargames, and even had one of the myriad baseball games. I need to root through the boxes and see what archeological finds I can make.

This was a lot of nostalgia for me (like it obviously was for a lot of other people who have been commenting here). I can only agree when you write that Guns of August is a very slow moving game. I do, however, think that it is harder to make a game about WWI than about WWII. Advanced Civilization better than Civilization - YES I agree! Among other games here I also played Magic Realm, quite a unique item in this context. Thank you a lot for making this video for middle-aged men like me.

Lots of memories here, including games I still have but never played, such as Flat Top, which barely fits in its box yet is unpunched & in great shape. Caesar's Legions turned me off because of NATO symbology on the counters. otoh Alesia I will play to this day.

Could not had done it better myself . . . thanks for the walk down memory lane. I am unsure where/when I obtained the catalog; but maybe it came with my copy of Conquistador? Thanks again.

wow took me back to 6th or 7th grade. I was mostly into the sports games then. But not too long later when we had a computer played many of those "micro computer " games.

Amoeba Wars was a fun & easy multiplayer game. Space amoebas, how could one resist. Feudal was a chess-like game with pegged plastic pieces fitting into a board full of holes, my brother in law had it & we played it a few times but nothing special.

I look at that catalog and I see an 18-year-old me with hair. Ahhh, memories....

Caesar's Legions was Loren Wiseman's big wargame design.

Chancellorsville was remade (i had that copy) in the 1970s so the catalog is correct and showing that version

I have actually played UFO. It is essentially an abstract strategy game with UFO trappings. Oddly, it's fairly modern in design and you could easily make a new version with modern components that would go over OK, although not with wargamers :).

Magic Realm 10 different characters from slow Berserker that could carry anything but couldn’t get out of the way to the Witch King that had no form but morphed into a dragon, eagle, or mouse to move where others couldn’t.

I owned Conquistador, but it didn't contain that catalogue.

GI Anvil of Victory was released in 1983

I have Fury In The West; I love it. I have seen quite a few of your videos; I think you are correct in your assessment. You would not rate the game nearly as highly as most; it lacks the complexity/detail of most of your games and lord knows you have plenty of games on that battle.

If you want to play Wizard's Quest, Acquire and Bismarck, I've got them and would be willing to play them with ya! I could even show you what Moonstar is like! Lots of good games in that magazine!

Have you got a copy of the 1975 catalog, that with the yellow cover and the "Lifetime of Pleasure" headline? That one actually had a very important effect on my life (and I'm kicking myself for shipping that off to 3rd party buyers when I divested of old AH games several years ago).
