I had 1914! I was 12, in 1977, and inherited it, along with Crete, Anzio, Guadalcanal, Submarine, Battle of Britain, and Jutland. What memories.

Two years ago I bought "War and Peace" (the old version) on ebay. I am quiet satisfied, because I am interested in the Napoleonic Era.

Excellent video! AH has so many gems from their back catalog. Air Assault on Crete is one of my All Time Favorites. I love it so much I got the pimped out components from Camelot Games, larger plastic counters and a larger laminated map. Well worth the $ for such a classic game.

Great picks. My top AH games are Circus Maximus, Gladiator, and Speed Circuit.

Rob, the list is fantastic. AH is only remembered for ASL, a great game, when it should be remembered for so many others. I have some of these on the shelf that I will go home a take a fresh look at after work today. That being said, Firepower should be on the list too.

1973 Christmas brought me Richthofen's War! Less than a year later I got caught thieving Mini-Tanks from a local Hobby shop and got inducted in the local Wargaming club by the Store owner when he asked me Why I was stealing Mini-Tanks!
My best friend was a rich kid so of course he could actually buy Every AH game known to man, and Every SPI, GDW etc... So we built a room in his basement and called it our Wargaming Room...

I grew up with just about EVERY game. Honestly, My absolute favorite was Wacht Am Rein! (Decision Games?) I was one of the few who actually liked it! Unfortunately, in 1982 I discovered Star Fleet Battles and forsook every other game. I still have an 80lb box of SFB stuff sitting outside waiting for some other person who is still interested!

Great list Rob! I think I'd add in B-17: Queen of the Skies if for the many hours I've spent playing it and Naval War due to the fact that you can teach anyone to play in five minutes and most players I've known became hooked for life.

I remember as a kid always wanting to buy "Air Assault on Crete".

A great list. I have fond memories of Wizard's Quest and Titan when I got into gaming (1980 and still gaming strong).

I know this is a war gaming topic, but I am old enough to remember going to the game store and just hunting for the next great game. I LOVED Avalon Hill's sports games. They were all so good, Speed Circuit, Status Pro line (baseball, football, etc..), Bowl Bound, Paydirt, ungh!!! Thanks Rob for.a nice trip down memory lane. You are the best, take care

We still love Titan. It's kind of the Challenge of the Superfriends of AH games. Also huge fan of Wizard's Quest. I introduced one of my friends to it, and I had a bad reaction to the pizza we got to eat while playing, and the game is now known in our circle of friends as "The game so good, you'll sh** your pants."

I have 4 or so games on your list. I agree with Titan. I liked it so much that I built an insert organizer out of luaun so that game set up was very fast. My son got the reprint, but its counters had delamination issues. Great game.

Great list! I wore out the cards in Statis Pro Baseball for one that didn't make your list. Totally agree with your #1. Titan is an underrated classic.

Titan is absolutely classic. Played it with some of the original play testers at UVA. Needless to say they were probably among the best Titan players in the nation.

There is also an iOS app which is decent for five or six bucks.

Some of my favorites are: C&O / B&O (1969), 1830 Railroads and Robber Barons (1986). Management (1960), Verdict II (1961 I think), and Foreign Exchange (1979). We played the last one in a college class I took and I bought my own copy as I enjoyed it along with Business Strategy (1973) which was played in another class I took. Great review here of some real gems.

Blackbeard was one of my entries to AH, and I know 3M did the original, but Acquire remains in my top 3 all-time games... Great list Rob!
