"My face is tired" is the only quote people remember from that game.

Their first mistake was calling it THE veilguard

To be blunt, BG3 has more of what Dragon Age fans want than Bioware has produced in a decade. This game is going in the opposite direction.

Reminder that CDPR spent a year delaying Cyperpunk while claiming everything was finished and that they just wanted an ultra polished game to be released. Only for that all to be a massive lie and the game was unfinished when it was being sent out for disc production.

So I don’t trust any developer now that talks about their game only needing polish.

Edit: I am SHOCKED that this comment is getting any kind of support. Over the last 4 years everytime I made this statement. I would get ridiculed and told that I didn’t know what I was talking about.

My bad feeling about Veilguard is that they talk so much about relationships and s*xualities, it seems to be more like a dating sim than a RPG.

As a massive Dragon Age fan, BioWare has nearly completely lost me with its marketing for this game. I don’t have a problem with more action oriented gameplay. It looks like it’s basically fantasy Mass Effect gameplay-wise, which is completely fine to me. But goddamn, this marketing cycle has been absolutely awful. Two trailers, one that was panned and one that had mixed reception, and then a bunch of “tell, don’t show” in the form of lackluster Game Informer articles, and nothing since. They keep telling us how great the companions and story are, but they won’t show us character trailers like they did with Inquisition. They keep telling us how engaging the combat is but won’t show past level 1 tutorial bs. They keep saying they’ll show more “Soon™”, but they don’t give anything concrete and are completely silent.

I’ve been waiting for this game for a decade. I want to see how the story ends. And because of how terrible the marketing is, I don’t even know if I’m going to play Veilguard anymore. They’ve nearly completely lost me, a massive fan of the series. I can only imagine what a casual customer must be thinking.

I still love that they say "Anthem taught Bioware it should focus on what its good at" like we don't all know DA Veilguard started as a live service, you didnt learn anything from Anthem and were forced to change the game when other live services failed and the game was trash

I'm not impressed with the new direction. I definitely won't be buying it on day one.

Technically bioware was going downhill around inquisition. Us fans still had rose tinted glasses then. Andromeda broke the crap out of em though.

They already missed the mark with the 2 companion thing, the human looking elves and other stuff.

They recently said they are dropping the ability to control your party members as (the new combat can be overwhelming) which I don’t believe for a second after seeing the combat trailer. More like they just cheaped out there for money reasons. Also they are dropping the party size down from 4 to 3

This is why BG3 was so good. Larian Studios made Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2 and with each game they learned and improved. They were then able to take that knowledge and use it for BG3. No imagine if they pivoted and decided to do something with BG3 that they were not good at like making the game like a first person multiple player adventure game. I don't think BG3 would have been a big hit like it was.

Besides the weird trailer and general skepticism I share, I don't like the art direction of Veilguard, at all. I don't mind the stylized look, not everything has to be realistic and Dragon Age always had a degree of stylization, but Veilguard is too colorful and doesn't give me dark fantasy vibes. It looks like another high fantasy game, since DAO they have been moving away from dark fantasy and this one with the monster having those neon colors is just the worst offender.

Director of this game called him self "gendermanser". Dragon Age is cooked.

The engine isn't the reason Andromeda failed. The real issue was that the game was scrapped, restarted, and thrown together in about 18 months before launch. Sure, using Frostbite was a mistake, but the management team completely dropped the ball. As a massive Mass Effect fan, Andromeda felt like it was made by people who had no understanding of the franchise, maybe just watched a YouTube summary of the original trilogy. The game didn't capture the essence of choice, the combat felt out of control and repetitive due to uninspired power-ups, and it only featured two intelligent alien species (and honestly, only one truly matters if you've played it). EA has its faults, but this disaster falls more on Bioware than EA.

When a gaming company becomes ass, it's only a question of who left or who acquired them.

They already did with that lame trailer. Getting Suicide Squad, new Saints Row and Concord vibes lmao

Made for "modern audiences" has never been successful.

mass effect: Andromeda, being buggy was least of its problem, those you can fix, but at the end of it all you still have a bad game. terrible writing, forgettable villain of the week story, which for a bioware game that is a doomed game if they cant even get the basics right.
