Southwest Airlines BUSTED For Catastrophic Financial Mismanagement

Southwest Airlines gets called out for its mismanagement of funds as CEO salary and post-Covid profits prove serious investigation needed for infrastructure financing. Francesca Fiorentini and Adrienne Lawrence break it down on The Damage Report.

"Secretary Pete Buttigieg met with Southwest airlines CEO Bob Jordan, as well as union leaders, to reiterate the company's "responsibilities to customers" amid travel chaos, Buttigieg told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on Tuesday.

Buttigieg told CNN that the Department of Transportation would hold Southwest accountable after he said the airline had promised the department in writing last summer that they would "take care of customers" during delays and cancellations.

"Now that we have those commitments that were made to us over the summer, we're going to be using that as a tool to hold them accountable," Buttigieg said on CNN. "And I made that clear to Southwest leadership. Now... the CEO pledged to me that they will not only meet but they will exceed the customer service standards and commitments that they have made to us in the past and that we're in a position to enforce.""

The one thing that I envy about Europe is their EXTENSIVE rail system. I have a friend who lives in Europe and it's just like jumping in your car here in the U.S. to travel to a whole other country. I would love to see our country commit to an extensive high-speed railway network but the cost will never make it possible.

Southwest treats me well as a customer, a customer who uses their cheapest fares fro traveling. So far for flight problems they have reimbursed me for $150 due to travel difficulties. I have never been better treated when they could overcome a problem with kindness and extended courtesy. My only relationship with that company is as a customer.
Sometimes fortune doesn't favor you and the best you can do is attempt to minimize awful circumstances. They are.
Essentially, you are piling on and being blowhard AHs.

SW is at fault and I agree with the critique. However in the longer version this host/ess made a number of stupid comments such as saying that California flights shouldn't be delayed or cancelled since they had no storms, and that SW should just make some good Excel spreadsheets to coordinate better. People who are that uninformed about the issues should not discuss it.

It's a damn good thing that the govt pays the airlines(mostly for MAIL). Otherwise the passengers would have to pay the ACTUAL COSTS of airfare!
The entitlement of people is appalling. The costs of passenger air travel is so far less than the costs. I wish they would cut all postal service service, that would definitely cut down the flights of people who are sure they deserve better service, at lower costs & more amenities. It's a privilege to fly NOT A RIGHT!
