DIY Climbing Anchor Board

Here's how to make a DIY climbing anchor practice board.

Disclaimer - Hopefully this is blindingly obvious, but this is ONLY to be used when your feet are firmly on the ground, and NEVER for any kind of training at height! Do not use this for full body weight or rappelling!

Stay sharp and practice your anchor skills! If you have a simple training board like this, you can rig up just about any climbing anchor you can imagine: top rope, rappel transitions, multipitch, and more.

Cost is about $5 in materials, and five minutes of your time with basic hand tools.

✅ There are LOTS of different ways you can build this.
✅ The key move on this one: drilling a hole slightly larger than the nut on the back of the board.
✅ This means no hardware sticks out the back, so you can hang it on things like a door or your car and nothing gets scratched.
✅ Hang it on a car, a tree, a doorway, a chain link fence . . .

Parts & Tools:
2" x 6" x 15" board (free at most construction sites)
2 bolt hangers (maybe buy at your rock gym)
1 1/2" x 1/4" bolts (2)
nuts to fit bolts (2)
drill bit a bit bigger than the bolt
drill bit a bit bigger than the nut
drill
socket set, wrench or pliers
4 feet paracord
