Astartes aspirants are 10 to 12 years old and some chapters use them in the scout company after their first few augmentations. Astartes start effectively between 14 and 15 as a warrior. Kill my scouts and you kill children v.v

Ah yes they may one day become Guard so when they take their first step off of a Valkyrie they get ripped in half by a Carnifex. I kid but seriously the scale of 40k is crazy to think that the Imperium can just raise people up from when they are born to be fighters have them go out and die in 5 minutes of becoming a soldier and be like "Meh, wheres the next shuttle of recruits?" And not even have it dent their population whatsoever/

So, people can argue all they want whether Kriegers are all vay-grown clones, the mothers are just ever-pregnant brood mares, or exactly how they keep up their punishing numbers of tithed troops, when Death Company soldiers so readily walk into death, in battle, but it's an element that I like to attribute to why, even well away from their homeworld, and its terrible environment, they keep these gas masks on all the time, and don't develop more personality. Many of them may be chronologically young boys and girls, and these apparatus keep those who fight alongside them from seeing it.
