Honestly, Mjolnir could have left at any time. Thor was obviously dead set on becoming something other than the hammer-weilder, so it could have gone to find the next best. Instead it stayed. I dont think it was "broken, " or that Thor really beat it into submission, but it was helping him train. It prodded Thor to take that path, after all

I liked Thor’s character development here. Before he was fixated on being worthy of Mjolnir but now he has outgrown the brick on a stick and the hammer feels unworthy to be wielded by a true god. Bahaha this is like those situations where the girl breaks up with the guy thinking she could do better and when he betters himself she lurches back and the guy outgrew her.

This is what they should have done with Love and Thunder. Have the thunderer be a god who escaped Gorr, have Jane be out fighting Gorr with Mjolnir, not a god so constantly spared by Gorr but fighting the butchering of the Gods, until Thor has grown his abilities as the God of Fists, completing the arc from Ragnarok until he's worthy again, so at the last moment he's able to team up with Jane to take down Gorr, but thor himself isn't enough and he and Jane have to seyt aside their differences and genuinely work together to do it

Jane sacrifices herself and Mjolnir to destroy the necrosword and Gorr once and for all, Thor returns to lead Asgard and we're teased Knull, god of the necrosword and all the symbiotes. Maybe tease that Hela had a symbiote too, a lobotomised one she controlled.
