Microsoft Surface Pro 3

My review of the Surface Pro 3 from Microsoft will leave some of your nodding in agreement and others shaking your heads furiously... But to find out which camp you fall into, I guess you'll have to watch...

It's impressive how reviewers keep cocking this up. Yes Linus it's not laptop, yes it's not exactly a tablet.
You touched on the point earlier, a student or a artist would get use out of it, and I'm an artist and I can safely say the Surface Pro 2 & 3 are the cheapest art tablets you can get that are more powerful and portable than anything else.
You say artists would/should get the companion and it's 'similarly priced' it's TWICE as much and not everyone requires what the Companion's pen does. Not only is it $1000+ more Linus, it's got the same guts hardware wise, the same gpu, the same CPU, same ram same storage. So you're pitching a over priced device based on the pen alone when many artists don't use the tilt function and many don't care about the extra pressure levels. I'm sorry that's incredibly wrong, the people looking at the Companion are going to be very picky and have much deeper pockets.

I've enjoyed your reviews before, however it seems like you went in wanting something and reviewed it based on that. You gave away who the target audience is and yes, this device is great for them and you're smashing it because ...the text scaling and icon scaling is poor. This has been a workstation replacement for me for over a year now, the 2, the smaller one and if you're reading this and think this thing looks great for art? It is. I dunno what happened with Linus' review but he's clearly reviewing with another device in mind while he talks about this which doesn't make this a good review.
Don't review the device if you're not going in using it for the obvious intended purpose, and I don't mean the marketing- you said it, artists & students, if you're not an artist then figure out how to review it in that mindset if you're going to bother.

You people literally don't know what to moan about next in the YouTube comments section. Linus has to review the product based on how he used it throughout the review period. He was sat on a plane using the device in the same way he'd have used a notebook. He is NOT a student nor is he an artist. Do you now know how reviews work? The reviewer uses a device in the same way they would use a similar device and tell you about their experience. You shouldn't be watching Linus if you want the opinion of an artist, obviously. Use some logic, you're ruining the YouTube comments section with your stupidity as if it wasn't already bad enough.

Linus a few things you forgot to point out is the fact that it can play PC games (obvious to most of us who understand it's simply is an x86 PC running a full blown x86 Windows OS but others may simply see it as another tablet and not think about that) so I think you should have shown some games playing on it.  Also it can run a full blown secondary monitor at full HD resolutions (I think even up to 4k?) and that's something that no other tablet can do.  Sure they can run a mirrored display but they can't run an extended desktop secondary monitor like this can and certainly not at 1440p and beyond.  You should have shown that too.

Dude your review started off well but soon went into a downwards spiral... Your negative points make very little sense because they are pretty much all been addressed by Microsoft as being on their way to being fixed or simply don't have a solution for any product yet (where would you put the stylus? The Surface is thinner than it...). For example the windows button on the right will soon have the option of being deactivated when needed. You somehow could not find an angle while using the surface on your lap where the screen would face you when you have 150 degrees to choose from? On the plane the first angle that the kickstand opens too is perfect to use on the tray. Complaining about the micro sd card slot is plain silly as it is obvious that everything inside is already packed to tight to allow a normal sd card slot. The scaling issues will obviously be fixed with an update, as Microsoft has been updating their surfaces software very frequently for a while now.

Anyway it is obvious that you don't know much about windows 8 as it would make to sense to want to touch the taskbar to select a program when you can much more easily alt tab or use the track pad. It is clear that you have a bias against Microsoft and it shows with stupid comments like "typical Microsoft right" when you were they one who made a mistake...

I am a student who bought a surface pro 3 for university and I love it. I am nearly completely paperless, taking notes with the stylus for things like math and the type cover if I want text. One note desktop is awesome and it is such a selling point when you pull map off the web, write all over it, and then scale it down and move it around in your notes with it being linked to an audio recording the whole time. It has the form factor of a tablet but the productivity of a laptop, more with the stylus because I am a student. The surface pro 3 is great for windows 10 and just incredibly versatile. It is definitely not a gaming machine and I don't run anything heavier than League of Legends. I can't wait to see the surface 4, which if the rumors are true will bring 6th gen intel, with much faster SSDs and a fanless design. Maybe even a 14 inch model.

i'd say SP3 is targeted for college students. nothing beats it's note taking capability + portability.

Linus. I'm dissapointed with this review of yours. You're usually open-minded and broad thinking. But here you only talked about what you were looking for. And not what someone who'd actually consider it would look for. As you barely mentioned in the beginning of the video, if you're a student, you'd care about the pen and so on. That's what it is. And the review should've been targeted towards those who would look for a complete PC in a tablet form-factor. You completely failed on this point.

This is not a tech review of Surface pro 3, Rather simply your personal opinion on why you wouldn't buy it. It should be rather obvious that buying all those alternatives would end up costing more and would mean having to walk around with way more than just a Surface.

Not to mention how silly it is to expect it to have the pen go inside it as well, when it's apparent that it's already stuffed inside it. Me for instance would rather appreciate the device itself to stay as small without being igger just for the sake of being able to put the pen inside it.

I'd rather just get a Macbook Pro with Retina to be honest. Only costs $150 more in Australia but it's worth it- more "lapability" (is this gonna become a thing?), no silly gimmicky touchscreen and stylus crap and better build quality.

I really don't get the point, why everybody is hating Apple.. I mean OK, the price could be a point but for "normal" users their products are great! I am a computer scientist and of course I have my own build Windows Desktop PC and my laptop for work, but i also have an (now old..) MacBook Pro 13" and it's great to use it at home, to watch YouTube, listen to music and browsing the web! I am not a "fanboy" at all but i think a lot of u never tried a Mac product or he just isn't used to. 
I anyway don't get the point why everybody needs to bitch around certain things or companies. (Just for example Nvidia and AMD.. Apple and Samsung.. Microsoft and Apple..) just let everyone use what they like and don't judge products you've never worked long enough to judge them. 
I hope you get the point what I want so say with this.

What, no data on performance? 
You could have run Crystal disk mark to check the performance of the internal SSD, the USB port and the Micro SD slot.

You could have run wPrime to check the performance of the processor and Cinebench to check rendering capabilities, BUT NO.  You complain about the trivial items like no place to put the stylus

Now I know many viewers will not care about the rendering aspect, but it’s a good test to run, and data on the performance of the internal SSD, the USB port, the Micro SD slot, as well as the performance of the processor should concern all persons thinking of getting the Surface pro 3.

PLEASE DO A PERFORMANCE REVIEW...

Linus, this would have to be one of the few videos where I disagree with you. I am college student, and I literally take it with me everyday. The stylus is great for taking notes on top of one note and powerpoint documents, although I do agree the the stylus size and ergonomics of its storage is a little "gimmicky" to say the least. 

One of the major positivs for this tablet is the wide arangement of possible configurations. I have the I7 256Gb model, and it gets almost everything done, including running programms like AutoCAD and Solidworks for my Engineering classes.
