If it were me, I'd replace the hard drive with a SSD. But this is quite a good use for an old laptop. The picture frame is an economical case and the RGB LED light strips are a nice touch.

Nice project. I built mine under the table with extra fans for airflow. Unvisible. I built another one in an old 2009 27" iMac (much more powerfull, 10th gen i7, 16 Gigs RAM, 2 TB Nvme WD SN850, converter board needed). If you have enough imagination you can re use broken stuff to make it usefull again. Thumbs up Fabio ( although I can give you only one ).

I want to do the same but had some questions. 1. Can I put more fans in desktop because my laptop heat a lot a lot. 2. Can we turn hp laptop display into monitor and use that with dell DIY desktop? How to do so?. BTW loved the video :D

Great video. It's good to know that there are ways to take advantage of those old laptops that are carrying powders in the closets. I had a Inspiron 6400 with the best ATI Mobil GPU that could've been a perfect candidate for a project like this has the motherboard still work. Somebody ether dropped something very heavy on it or "HALK SMASH!" it. I got it free for parts and hoped maybe it would still post to save the motherboard but nope "its dead Jim"
