thank you for this tutorial... the HUGE problem with this method, which make it useless for serious film work is that there always visible signs of destruction before destruction happened... in a simple box you can keyframe and play with the visibility of the inital object (cube) but in larger project, a complex building which is destroyed partially or in more complex mesh it starts to become a headache.

What's wrong with setting Cell Fracture in Cell Fracture & Rigid Body, applying Rigid Body, and running simulations without breaking it and exploding like a bomb?
