Simply put the holding line is the border of the runway. Before entering the runway, don't cross it before you want to enter the runway. When you want to vacate the runway, cross it to actually leave the runway area. The line just seperates runway and taxiway

Happened to my during my PPL when I contacted ground and said "vacated rwy xx" and the respond was "uuhm..you're actually still on the runway". I've never done that wrong again.

Bremen Tower explained it to me at my first Solo :) Did exactly that mistake. Good, that the Apt wasnt ultra busy at that time.

hi i know its old short but just want to let you know we new vatsim pilot need more content like this. i started like month ago but never considered those line as two separate sides.

Scenery could put these marks in different places so it’s not totally fair to say all aircraft are in the wrong. I was actually asked on Unicom by another pilot if I was okay because for him I was in the dirt because I was using default scenery instead of orbx or something similar.

I wish vatsim would compile and address the bucket load of non-typical situations! The areonatical handbook mainly explains procedures for typical textbook situations. There is no reaason this many people should be the first time hearing about holding lines (understand this is a typical procedure)

Guys it’s cool to raise awareness for rules like these but I think you also shouldn’t make the life of beginners too hard as we have a lot to deal with anyways and can’t follow every procedure out there

Yesterday at Hamburg, I had to wait 5min and two planes needed to go around because of this. It is so annoying

Nehmen wir das gezeigte hier mal als Beispiel. Ich kann entweder nach rechts oder geradeaus weiterrollen bis zur nächsten durchgezogenen linie. Würde ich nach rechts weiterrollen und dann eine taxi Anweisung bekomme, die mich nach links führt, kann ich diese nicht ausführen weil kein gelber Rollweg nach links führt von da. Ist dann pech oder wie? Klar meistens kann man durch logisches denken abschätzen wohin es gleich geht, aber das prinzip interessiert mich. Wenn der Airport mir nicht bekannt ist, wäre ich, sofern mein Heck ein gutes Stück von der runway entfernt ist, auch vor dem ersten holding point stehengeblieben. Bzw. wäre ich soweit gerollt dass ich noch nach links und rechts könnte. In diesem Fall hinter den Holdingpoint. Aber lerne gerne dazu

Hold before the holding line? Dont get it, you mean stop every time you get to one of those lines and wait for atc to clear you?

what if your vacating and the exit or rapid exit directly crosses another runway.

Your video does not explain the problem clearly. And might be misunderstood as, people may enter the runway without clearance, because what you are explaining vs what we are seeing in the video are 2 different things. Better if your video is an aircraft coming from inside the runway, vacating.

Wenn man sich mit dem Thema nicht beschäftigen will, hat man eh nichts auf VATSIM zu suchen, wenn man nur von 12 bis Mittag denken kann. :) Wenn die einfachsten Sachen nicht klappen.
