Correction: Final Fantasy VIII was on 4 discs for the PS1, not 2. Thank you to those who pointed out our mistake in the comments!

There was a rumor when I was a kid where if you stayed too long in that pond thing outside Peach's Castle in Mario 64, some sort of monster would spawn and kill you. So we never dared to go in it.

Not an urban legend, but an interesting annoyance my ex had. Okami is her favorite game of all time. She's played it multiple times, 100% it a few times, and back when we were dating, she beat her personal record speedrunning it(4 hours and 17 minutes). However, she always had this reoccurring dream of a secret area in the game, keeping her from true completion. And no matter how much she tried, that secret area never showed up, even when she followed her dream exactly as it played out. Even on PS4, which showed how much she did. Full completion, yet she still had the same dream. A false legend exclusive to her sleep.

Definitely remember a lot of these urban legends like Ben Drowned, Sqaull is Dead, and the Lavender Town Syndrome from when I was younger. Those brought back memories. Also, FFVIII has four discs. Not sure how WatchMojo messed that up.

I remember when legends like Herobrine, Polybius, Lavender Town, and Sonic.EXE ruled my imagination as a kid. Good times…

Pretty sure FF8 was 4 discs long, not 2.

I like how the Ben Drowned legend is placed in the #3 spot again like the top 10 video. Overall this is a great top 20. Got to see legends I’ve never heard of before.

Can't forget another Pokémon classic: That you could find Mew under a truck behind the S.S. Anne cruise ship. The problem was, you needed the HM moves Cut and Surf, which you get waaaay later in the game, and even after getting said moves, the ship moves away after going through it, and the entrance you could go through using Surf is completely blocked. The option was to trade for a pokémon with those moves before entering the ship, but again, you need to have the badges needed to use the moves, I think.
Years later, someone managed to get to the truck, I forget how, and legend debunked: Mew was not under the truck.

Sonic.EXE is absolutely terrifying and disturbing at the same time.

The actual FFVIII urban legend is that it was printed in two discs.

The secret cow level was referenced in Minecraft Dungeons, where you can find runes in the game to unlock it.

The "Squall is dead" theory might have some validity if Squall were always in the party. There are a few instances where events are told from outside of Squall's POV (the missile base, the active party while Squall is in space). It makes no sense that Squall's dying dream would feature things from outside his perspective, particularly given that Squall, who is a pathologically averse to emotional intimacy (and ironically desperate to have the same), would have any idea how other people's thought processes would be.

Squall is dead theory is so good it fits perfectly in the overall story being told in FF8, alongside Ultimecia being Rinoa in his near-death dream. I, myself, prefer this version to the original story...

I remember accidentally listening to the Lavender Town theme in 2014 (When I was absolutely obsessed with creepypastas) and it gave me nightmares for at least a week. Now whenever i hear the first few notes of it I absolutely flip out (Fun fact: it is only one of two things that actually scare me, the other one is threat of nuclear war).

The Real Herobrine lore is: he was formerly Notch’s Brother and all what he does is stalking and killing and making chaos around in the Minecraft and he’s stated to be. The God of Minecraft and what exactly he does is making players quit their servers and hacking them and leaving perceptions and all the familiar weird stuff around the world AND.. A good friend in the creepypasta gang

FF8 wouldn't fit on two disks.

It takes 4 to fit.
