Dell XPS 16 review - is better good enough?

Dell's all-new XPS 16 has finally made it to our studio, and the sleek 16" notebook presents itself as a much more well-rounded product than its smaller 14" sibling we reviewed a little while ago.
But if that is enough to make the XPS a better option compared to competing notebooks or if the whole function follows form approach comes with too many compromises, well, we will tell you in our video

Looking forward to when Dell finally removes the capacitive row on their keyboards. I can very reluctantly accept capacitive function keys, but a physical escape key is non-negotiable for vi style keybinds

I really don't like the direction they are going with the XPS line. It's form over function. Apple already learned this lesson with their MacBooks right before M1. You need form AND function. I guess Dell wasn't paying attention.

Its heavier than the Zephyrus g16 while being weaker. Kinda made the Asus laptop the better XPS

I love my XPS 9500's design (not so much its loud fan noise and terrible battery life). I hate the change made to the new XPS keys + that stupid capacitive function row. I really hope the Lunar Lake generation variant fixes/changes things back or ill have to go with a Surface device.

I just got the new XPS 16 like two days ago and it’s the best purchase I’ve ever made in my whole entire life. I love it so much and I would recommend it to anyone who’s willing to put down the money for an upper amount of five years of amazing computing experience!❤❤❤

Running a 4070 at 60W is probably unique in the world of 4070 laptops, but not in a good way. Beautiful device, though!

personally im going to wait for next year xps 16 model hoping improvement in efficiency per watt for both cpu and gpu makes it one of the ultrabook there is.

I used to think it was jarring to hear a laptop referred to as a 'puppy, ' which you often do, but now I like it. It gives me a little chuckle, which is nice when watching a video alone. It's tough being a laptop reviewer on youtube; there are so many great ones that you really need to do something different. I think the way you condense your reviews and the graphics you choose to display performance metrics are a nice touch, and do make your channel different and interesting. .

Some reviewers are the main market for Dell XPS models, which has had a declining market share for a while now. From poor QC to designs targeting form over function, they cannot get it right. I suspect the success of selling aesthetic displays (edge-to-edge) where reviewers gushed and looked longingly at their device sent them down this path of pleasing those who value prettiness over the more practical. Some still look at a computer like that, but most see it as equipment to get stuff done on, and a pretty design is not essential. Hence the sharp decline in sales.

There are few options at its price, but most are better alternatives. My experience of QC with Dell translates to never buying one again. I hope these will be more reliable and that Customer Service helps the many likely to have issues. But an easy pass from me.

May I ask if this generation's gpu power is limited by thermal or power supply? Because last gen's xps 17 had enough cooling, but struggles to get enough electricity from its ridicules small adapter. Dell actually has a 165w over usb-c implementation at their workstation 5000 series. Maybe that would be the better choice...

If you buy an XPS, you will have issues. First hand experience from using both the XPS 13 and XPS 15.

As a mechanical engineer and owner of a 2019 Dell XPS 15 and a fully loaded Dell XPS15 9530 with the Intel i9 13900H, Nvidia RTX 4070, 64GB or DDR5 Ram, 4TB NVme PCI-E Gen4 along with the 3.5K OLED display.I am not enthralled with the new laptop design that now has soldered RAM and only a single NVme PCIE Gen4 slot. The capacitive function buttons are not ideal and have shown to be highly problematic as demonstrated in the Intel based Macbook Pro laptops.

Not sure how Dell are still in business. They’ve been failing for so many years in every respect - support, customer service, build quality, design, feature set, value - it’s been a case of ever decreasing circles & shrinking market share. How long can they keep going the wrong way before they go bust?

It seems like a great laptop for a C# or Python programmers that doesn't want to get caught into Apple's ecosystem. Unlike the Dell XPS 14, it doesn't hold the GPU back. Thus, making it nice to game on the side too.

It’s the capacitive function keys that break this for me, it wouldn’t be a big deal if the esc key were available as a physical button but even then man it’s like, for my work I use a lot of forensic software and a ton of CLI and other open source and proprietary tools and we use function keys for some of these tools somewhat regularly and damn it just feels like a big L on dells part, like at least the escape key should’ve been there at the bare minimum

Hello guys, I am doing my Computer Science class right now, and I am wonder which is the right one for me, is it MacBook air or window laptop, and if it's a mac, which version should I choose. To be more specific, I don't play game.
Thank you so much for your time.

Only way it would be good: bring back keyboard buttons on top row, switch cpu to amd, fix your stupid QC problems. Wasted too much money on xps never again

Dell made everything very easy, I am going with Asus or Lenovo, they have better laptops for less...
Asus Zephyrus is better at everything and costs less.

Until they do a normal keyboard I consider the XPS line as a broken design.
