I think it should be noted that it's GENERAL Anesthesia that doesn't block pain, LOCAL Anesthesia does block pain so while they're called the same name they work very differently

That explains why my blood pressure went out of control when I had brain surgery. I woke up and half of the operating room staff was staring at the heart monitor. It was to the extreme.

My friend's older brother went into hospital for some small surgery, but he had a heart attack and died. The family didn't know he had heart problems. I never realised how stressful surgery is on the body, or I would have been a lot more worried about the surgeries I've had to have over the years. 😮

"Investigate those well before surgery" Okay cool, wheres the doctor who will take me seriously and actual run some tests on my heart when I bring up my concerns, and not just say "I'm available for another appointment with you 6 months from now, we can check back in then"

It makes sense. For every joint replacement/surgeries I've had I've been given a nerve blocker. What a fantastic thing it is. Nerve blocker + a bit of sedation = a perfect stress/pain free surgery. Until the nerve blocker wears off.

"You do not want to have a heart attack in a surgery"

Idk. Thats kinda exactly when I'd want to have one.

Already unconscious and already surrounded by doctors

So this is why my hair starts falling out after surgery...

They say you don't dream while under anesthesia, but I can remember dreaming. One was like a tornado of pictures of different things and sometimes audio.

If the EEG goes zero, how can we then distinguish this from braindeath? This is a good reason for why you should take a look into the negative side of organ donation before you're planning on becoming a donor! Seriously, there's more to it

I am highly resistant to most anesthesias and morphine is highly ineffective (genetics I wasn't an addict). Even topical anaesthesia wears out very quickly. So hospital visits are always fun \s

I have low BP. I stayed awake for my knee replacement surgery and just had a spinal. I warned the anesthesiologist about it, but he freaked out because I wasn't scared, and my BP was low. It was funny that he was worried and I wasn't. Yes, they usually give me something to increase my BP.

Now I cannot unknow that I could have a heart attack during my many orthopaedic surgeries. 😮

Terrifying if you wake up, but the paralysis is still in effect though. I know its rare, but the fact that it can and does happen is the stuff of nightmares.

I had high BP during my surgery and they weren’t concerned. It was around 150-165/70-80.
My HR was completely fine though. It was in the low to mid 60s.

I had my thyroid removed due to Graves’ disease. And even though I was euthyroid at the time of surgery my antibodies were still elevated so I had high BP. And other symptoms as well.
Thankfully as time passed the high BP went away and it’s now around 100-110/60-70 and all my other symptoms are long gone and I got my life back.

I had a C-section and I refused to go under so they just numbed me but my body was shaking uncontrollably and my blood pressure was off the chart and my body wasn't responding well at all and I felt like I was in a freezer and they kept saying that they didn't know what was wrong or experienced it before. I think it was anxiety but idk.

Well, I never thought anasthesia would do that. 😂

I hate waking up from anesthesia. I always vomit and I’m completely zonked out which feels horrible to me. I just had surgery a little over a month ago and waking up from it reminded me why I will refuse elective surgeries requiring general anesthesia 😂

This is why I can’t be cleared by multiple surgeries. My blood pressure has been too high.
