Virtual Treadmill Walk - Fitzroy Island - Nudey Beach & Lighthouse Trail, Queensland Australia
Показать описание
You can use this video the next time you do an indoor treadmill or bike workout using your favourite device.
Fitzroy Island (originally Koba or Gabar) is a continental island out from Djujbirri (formally known as Cape Grafton), 29 km south-east of Cairns, Queensland, Australia. It is a large tropical island, with a rainforest covering and its own fringe coral reef system. The island has a total area of 339 hectares (838 acres). The highest point of the island is 375 metres above sea level.
The first section of the video takes us to Nudey beach
This walk starts at the western edge of the resort and winds through rainforest and coastal woodlands to a picturesque beach. The track is predominantly bitumen with steep stone steps and boulders in some sections. Some walkers may find these difficult to cross.
Despite the fact that there are no nude beaches in Queensland, this island beach seems to get away with it. Located on the southwesterly side of the touristy Fitzroy Island, the beach is partially covered with sand and also partially covered with loose dead coral. You can walk on all this coral - it's just not as soft as the sandy bits.
Most people who visit Nudey Beach keep their clothes on, and it is rare to see anyone nude. But the point is you do have the option.
Next we're off to the Lighthouse.
A very steep service road (concrete wheel tracks) from the north-east end of the camping area climbs through rainforest towards the lighthouse. A lookout on the windy north side of the island offers views of Green Island on a clear day. From the lighthouse, spectacular views of the ocean and, in winter, an occasional migrating humpback whale make this challenging walk well worth the effort.
