About 16 in '16:
Turning 16 is celebrated as a rite of passage into adulthood―driving cars, going on dates, and attending dances. But often, adult responsibilities, disparity, and conflict underscore everyday teenage life, particularly in far-flung corners of the earth. Many of these challenges are dealt with privately, but TakePart believes that every girl should have equal access to education, economic opportunity, and basic human rights so they can be empowered to find their place in the world. We have profiled 16 teens who are age 16 in 2016 and asked them what their lives are like and what issues they’re contending with. From questions about gender identification and growing up in modern families—think homes that vary from a single parent to two moms—to their career dreams and hopes for the future, this tentpole will delve into real teenage experiences today and what our next generation of women looks like.
